Default Car wont start need help asap

Ok so I let my buddy drive my car, he was driving in 3rd, and he went to shift to 4th but he must of missed it and hit 2nd beacause the RPM's spiked. He caught it and slammed on the clutch to save it and got it back into 3rd. I told him to pull over so we can make sure nothing got damaged. We pulled over and checked out everything and it seemed fine. We went to start the car back up but now it wont start up, it just cranks.
Any ideas?

My wild guess is that engine flooded. Wait a few hours and start again.

When my car did this, I kept on starting it and it started right before the battery died. ...but don't try it, i don't want you burning your starter lol.

I had to have AAA tow it to my mechanic I had no other choice. I hope it is just something like this. My friend is covering all costs, since he was responsible for it.
Anything else that might wrong?

As mentioned in the shoutbox you could have a broken timing belt which is a major repair, at least a couple-hundred dollars if you DIY, possibly into the thousands if it is professionally done. I don't see why that would happen on a simple over-rev, unless the belt was on its way out. A quick compression test would be very informative.

Does everything under the hood appear to be in working order? Belts are fine on the left side of the engine, exhaust manifold isn't cracked open, clutch lines are intact, clutch fluid reservoir is at normal levels?

Are you able to easily move the shifter around?

Just went today to the mechanic, it's the crank. The sensor blew completely off and they think that it will need a new crankshaft.

Since you mentioned being able to find an engine under $400, I'd get quotes for removing/installing the new engine. Maybe see if you can move your turbo setup from the old to the new before the engine is installed.

Well me personally....i would get a new/used crank sensor and bolt her on there and see what happens. you may have to tap the bolt hole for it, unless the sensor broke clean off. From that point the car will probably start, then you can go into further diags from there. if your planning on getting a used motor anyways than this step may save you some money. if not, your back where you started, and only down $20 or so

The likelihood that your crank walked based off of your story is quite low in my opinion. just sounds like there was a little too much boost in the ole crankcase to the point where it blew the sensor out. Maybe you blew the check valve in your PCV, i can only assume he was run WOT, but it"ll blow the dipstick out before anything else

To answer the original question in the post topic, its because you are missing your crank sensor lol

Either way good luck smile.gif
