Ok so the whole of the Ohio Valley got blasted by snow last night and i didnt drive my car this morning... so it was still covered in snow when i got home from school. Well when i got ready to go to work tonight i got in a hurry and accidently turned my wipers on with about a half inch of snow on the windshield. Well as most of you would expect they quite working. So i did a search and found that it could be one of 2 problems....1. being the motor itself. and 2 it could be the linkage connecting the wipers. To provide some info the wipers still move freely so i dont think it could be the linkage. So could any of you verify that yes the motor is not working. Also i have checked the fuses and they seem ok.

Motor could be verified by listening to that area on the car with the wipers ON.

You should hear the motor.

Don't forget, there are fuzes in the engine bay also.

Ya, I think you're likely to blow the fuse out overloading the motor. Kinda the point of the fuse.

Yea i was thinking it could be a fuse, you know so things can safely fail. Well i checked the one under the dash and even replaced it just to make sure. But i was looking at all this in the dark with a flashlight and i just glanced at the fuse box under the hood. When i flip the wipers on when i got the snow cleared off the windshield it seemed like it was making a little noise but now i dont think it does anything.

ok.. did you try ALL the wiper positions? I did the same once and blew out the relay for the delay wipers. They would not work at all in that position and stopped "parking" on their own.. but low and high still worked.

It is also possible you just stripped the wiper arms on the spindles.. if the spindles still work, you can have a go at tightening the nuts that hold that arms on.

1. Turn on wipers like Mad-Machine told - in Low or Hi. Listen to motor.
2. Check fuses under the dash (better check every fuse just in case)
3. Check fuses under the hood (same here).

If fuses are ok - check motor (check if it gets voltage)

Ok i had more time to look at it today. I turned on the wipers in every speed and mode and the motor comes on and works on all of them so the motor is fine. The wipers also move their entire range of motion freely when i pull them...So im not quite sure what it could be. Is there possibly a shaft connecting the motor to the wiper arm mechanism that could have failed. Any ideas, similar problems, im all ears. I hope it doesnt rain soon lol

it can be:

1) broken lincage
2) woren teeth on the shaft

take off wiper arms (there are a nut on each arm), turn on wipers and see if the shafts are turning.
If not - there are 2 bolts (maybe more) that holds 2 plastic covers. Take it out and inspect wiper linkage.

DO NOT PUT HANDS OR TOOLS THERE (where linkage is) WITH WIPERS ON.

better turn the key to OFF, so nobody will sudenly turn you wipers on.

There are NO teeth.
Just pressure fit and need to be torqued on.

My guess and I've seen many, is the wiper transmission / linkage has siezed.
99.99% sure that is your problem

the linkage is fairly simple and robust.. if the wipers themselves have not come loose on there spindles/shafts.. it could be the part that bolts onto the wiper motor itself. Like the wipers, it is a press fit/friction fit with a nut on the end.

Do both wipers move at the same time when you move them by hand?
