Im developing a little bit of a rust bubble on my rear fender. Went to a couple of shops to get prices on having it fixed and said I would be paying out of pocket versus having insurance deal with it. Both shops gave me the song and dance how they have to replace the entire panel which would be several thousands of dollars, weeks of time, and it not being worth it to repair something small because of the work involved. It shouldn’t matter how much work is involved! If I’m a paying customer and I want something repaired, and willing to spend the money, then just do it! They were more concerned over how long they would have to mess with it versus just making me happy. Besides, I don’t believe the BS that they have to replace the entire quarter panel of the car to fix one little bubble. Cut the cancer out, weld in a new piece of metal, sand, finish, paint, enjoy! Shouldn’t take much money and maybe a week at the most.

 

That is custom work. Don't go to a body shop. Go to a HOT ROD shop where there are trucks with the bodies and frames separated in the garage and they're doing stuff like this daily.

 

It's because they don't know how to do it. The way you mentioned is the right way to do it.
