I'm sitting at work (I sit at a desk near a window facing the parking lot), and some a-hole swung their door open hard on my door. my alarm went off, and I jumped up and saw a brown dodge sitting there for a sec before they took off into Binghamton University campus. When I got out to my car and saw the damage (they frikken ripped up the autobot sticker on the door!), I ran into work and yelled, "be right back, I'm chasing down some a-hole that hit my car..." and took off. I searched EVERY parking lot on campus until I found their empty, still-warm truck. There was a chip on their door at the exact height of my dent, AND there was brown scrapes in the dent of my car. I called the cops and filled out a report. The cop said that it's a "civil matter", and there's NOTHING the police will do to help. My insurance company says that their insurance will cover it. I just need to get an estimate tomorrow morning....

between the re-appearing rust under warranty of the last paint-job on the driver side, this 1.5" scrap/dent on the passenger side door, and the body kit, my car is due for a painting very, very soon.

The same thing happened to me a few years back. Some little focker doored my car when I purposely parked far away from the nearest car. I cussed the dude out but made the mistake of calling the cops first. THe cops said there was nothing they could do as it was in "private property." I should've just kick the little shit's ass and let the thing go...LOL

unfortunately, just the empty truck... Actually, I'm sorta glad. I don't know how bad I would have flipped out on them if I had the chance to talk to them. As of now, they're just going to get a notice from their insurance company saying they owe me money!

Hindsight, by the time I got out there onto BU campus, I bet they were getting out of their truck, just in time to see me breathing fire as I drove by. There were a few trees between where they were parked and where I drove by, so I didn't see the truck. My car is kinda hard to miss, and with my alarm going off when they hit me, they definitely knew what was going on.

Cops cant do anything about a hit and run............

Leaving the scene of an accident is illegal. Not simply frowned on by your Insurance company.

What a douchebag of a cop. Last time I checked, that was considered a hit and run accident which is a felony most places. If he said that to me, I would have put my size 12 steel toe boot right into the door of the other car right in front of the cop, and said "oh well, it's private property!" and then driven off.

Did you take a pic of the truck and more importantly the door where it hit ya?
That would help.
Hope it works out for you!

I had a similar experiece, but this stupid BIATCH hit my car with her POS Van. Scraped off like a foot of paint, And it was in my parking garage, I went looking for it and found the scrape on her van. When I confronted her she fessed up, but also said "I didn't know what happened, I didn't think I hit you. But the alarm did go off 'when I went by'." Yeah ok, so the alarm didn't give it away!
ARGH!! evil.gif :x
Anyway, they paid for the damages, with going through insurance

I wish that I had taken a pic of the door of the truck, but I didn't think of it. If it really comes down to it, I'm pretty sure if a cop checked out their door in the next few days, it'll still be there. In fact, the damage to her truck was so minimal, I doubt they'll even fix it. I still have the brown paint in the ding too. I don't think it will be an issue (knock on wood). My insurance company assured me that they'd take care of it without affecting my insurance or my rates. If it DOES change my rates, I'm going on another "hunt". wink1.gif
