thankfully though, door dents are not hard to repair.. I got a $100 quote to fix the two golf ball size dents in my Driver's door from when somebody threw a stolen bicycle into my car when it was parked on the street. Car was only a couple of months old too...

I wouldve sat there and waited for the guy to come back. Then yell at him and demand he pay to fix it. And then call the cops if that didnt work. This is why I park far away at work. There'd be hell to pay if someone did that to me.

This is why I try and park next to a kerb or an island in a parking lot.. I will put the car so that the side facing it is as close as I can get it without touching.. this usually leaves enough space between my car and the next slot over that even the seventies ElDorado coupe can swing it's doors open without touching my car.

i would have just keyed the hell out of their car.

this was soooo my first thought. If the alarm was going off they knew they hit you. Phukers.

As for the "civil issue" or whatever, was it in a parking lot?? Cause if it was the police cannot do anything about it. We had some 19 year old @$$ hit my mom's Taurus a couple years back. Damage was on the side of the car. ($657 worth) and he swore that it was our fault. We could've taken him to court but hte legal fees and such wouldn't have made it worth it. You don't HAVE to do anything after an incident in a parking lot.

***OFF TOPIC - Just as icing on the cake, this same guy got the piss and shit kicked out of him later that year(In a totally unrelated incident) by a really good friend of mine. My friend was only 15 at the time. Great story for another day, I promise you.***

I just got the estimate... $435 for fix and re-paint. But here's the deal... smile.gif

This is the same body shop painted my car 2 years ago, with a 5 year paint warranty. I've got some rust bubbles in 2 places on the driver side where they painted it. So they'll fix the rust on the driver side for free, fix the ding/dent on the passenger side door under the other guy's insurance (free for me), AND, because my car will be in the spray-room, and my color paint will already be mixed, they'll cut me a really good deal to paint my body kit while it's in there. 8) All in all, I can't complain!

heh, looks like I opened my mouth too soon... The police just called this morning to tell me that they won't give me the info on the other person because "it wasn't an accident". Their car wasn't in motion, so there is no report. Here's the stupid catch, they said I could sue them as a civil matter, but they can't tell me who the person is because there's no report. HUH?! After I yelled at the cop on the phone, "How can I sue them like you suggested, IF YOU WON'T TELL ME WHO THEY ARE?!" he paused, and replied, "Oh, yeah, I guess that doesn't make much sense, does it? Hmmm. Well stop by the station monday and file for a free information act thing, but we may send you to the town hall to fill stuff out too. Then we might be able to give you the info."
I told him that if I had known he was going to be so un-helpful, I would have personally waited at their truck to get their info, but I was instructed by their dispatcher to go back to my work and wait for the cop. He half-chuckled and agreed that I could have done that.

So-o-o, according to this cop, this is the same thing as a shopping cart hitting my car in a parking lot. There's nothing he could do. So keeping that in mind, next time I'm done shopping, I'm just gonna wing my cart down the aisle and let what ever car happens to be in it's way stop it, because the police won't do anything about it...evil.gif
(well, not really, I'm not an a-hole)

I'm glad you added your disclaimer at the end there cause that is just a bad case of sour grapes. Don't take this shit man!! Go downtown and get this information. The bastard hit your car and should be resposible for it. Go get some pictures of the truck (this involves going on another hunt) to back up your story. Nobody is just going to say okay I'll pay you. If it is documented that he damaged your car he should pay for it.

I thought it was odd that they would have the insurance company paying so quickly. Hope everything works out. Pin this bastard for all of us who didn't have a chance to. Me, I got hit in the parking lot at school. THE ONE TIME I PARKED CLOSE BECAUSE OF AN EXAM I GOT HIT. Phukin' 5h!tty @$$ garbagehole. about a 4 inch scratch took the paint right off down to the body panel. FRY HIM LIKE HE'S PETERSON!!
