Ive got a buddy who'll smoke them for me at their body shop (one of those that only works on high-end cars ex. Bimmers, Mercedes...) He'll do it on the side and for real cheap so I think I might do it... He'll smoke the taillights and the LED strip/3rd brake light in the spoiler and they do very high-quality work...

My question is is this legal? (I'm in Texas if that matters...) How can I tell if its too dark to be legal? and has anyone smoked the third brake light before?(I've never seen it done but think it would look good...)

I think it would tie up my dark blue/black theme real well.... If anyone has pics of their spoiler LEDs smoked please post a link/pics or something THNX.

if you live in or close to a city they are more lienent on wether or not stupid things like that are legal... if you live in rural areas where tickets are a large part of police income then they will ticket you for just about anything

Also even if they did give you a ticket, itd be a fix it ticket, and youd just show up to court with some stock tails on, and the judge would throw out the ticket...

if you only have like 1-2 layers, then it will be noticeably darker, but not dark enough to look aftermarket, so no one will mess with you. if u lay the spray down more then that, it will be very dark. you dont really want to go that dark anyway, cause then you can see the light bulb behind the tint, and it just doesnt look as good.

plus too dark doesnt let much light through. pile_of_rd1's tails are hella dark, and maybe 1/4th the original light still is visable after he tinted them.

exactly, better too light than too dark. Personally, I have found good looks with just tinting out the clear part of the rear lenses.

These look really dark.. but they arn't. I blacked out the reflector instead of the lense.

I did try running the smoked covers from K-spec. The second day I had them on, I almost got rear ended because the guy behind me did not see the brake or turnsignals.. so I tossed them

^^

definitly clear them! the spray tint itself gets a dull look, and rubs off over time. i did my probes about 4 years ago. and currently there barely tinted anymore. but with clear, ive noticed it holds up alot better, and adds a nice stock looking shine to it.
