Idunno what to do. The clearcoat is coming off all over the car. We just had a heavy rain, and it's friggin horrible. The entire hood is ruined, the passenger door has like a 6" x 6" spot, and behind the door on the rear panel is like a 4" x 4" spot, as well as other places. I can't afford a new paint job, I can't even afford to fix the dmg I've had since nov last year. Idunno what to do though. I'm hoping to get money for my 21st bday, and get a new hood and fenders. But I don't know about the rest. I'm so tired of nothing going right on the car I"m about to just sell it walk everywhere.

well one easy fix would be to get like 600-1000 grit sand paper, sand the whole car so its all sanded no spot shall be left untouched. lol, clean with water an soap. make sure to remove all grease an oil, rinse well,, WEll. repeat rinse, let dry, tape off all windows an lenses an anything else you dont want painted, then put the car in primer till you can take it to macco or some body shop. its easy to do on your own. or since i have no clue how bad it is try to buy some hand rubbing compound try lightly sanding one spot then using the rubbing compound to see if it makes it better. if not see above lol

Well, I'd love to get the whole car painted, but I can't even afford gas right now. I'm full time college student and trying to find a part time job, and blah blah insert story.

And no.. i wasn't jk about selling the car, but I wasnt 100% serious... just friggin pissing me off. I got a new antenna today from the guy sellin em in FS section, start taking my old one off, and it snapped. Took pliers to the remaining piece, that broke off too. So now I can't put the new antenna in. And I got so much dmg on the car it's pissin me off cuz I can't fix it. At least if I can try to fix the clear coat that's one step ahead..

i would say, just spend some time and sand the whole car down, using a high grit paper, like 800, and just buy rattle can clear for now, or use primer.

the clear will just keep peeling otherwise and itll just keep lookin worse.

so ya can't afford gas, but ya bought a crappy stubby antenna?

^^ whoah!!! no way mang! 800 to get the nastys from the clear coat off. You need to use 1000, then 2000 before clearcoat.

haha.gif and, maybe that's why he can't afford gas.

If he knows how to use a spray paint can, he could wet sand with 320, Me going to school for two years and my best friend working at maaco, they all sand cars with 320 prior to paint... I've painted over 180 before and got a near perfect result lol, with 800+ you're just asking for a few more days of sanding, unles the clear isn't flaking off that bad, in that case finer would be good but i know most of the time it needs feather edged so i'd start out with 320, 400 if you're cautious then go finer if you feel the need.

well if hes just trying to fix it up, so it dont look like shit, 1000 and 2000 would just be a huge waste of time..

i have gotten great results, just using rattle can on parts, using max of 400 grit..

but if your just trying to make the car look decent to a quick look over, there is NO NEED for 1000 or 2000 grit, itll take 10X as long, and wont yield much better results for what your trying to do.

Dude, you can PRIMER over 320 grit sanding... You CANNOT clearcoat over 320. 800 would be good to get a layer or two of nasty clearcoat off. He's not repainting the car, he's just touching up. the 2000 grit is just to supply a surface for the paint to adhere without causing damage to the clearcoat or paint.

Well, I got quoted $300 by a local maaco shop to paint my front bumper. Lol 300 for a maaco job, screw that. So I'm looking for a place to buy OEM paint and pearl coat, that can do 1 day shipping. paintscratch.com takes 5 days. And i'm looking for local shops to mix some stuff up, but 3 so far haven't picked up the phone.

Also, is it possible to buy the UV protectant gel coat for CF?
