yea i've seen some tibs w/ roof scoops on them, looks great but just for show. I would love to have one when my car is finished. I think you have to get them custom molded.

I think the best way to do a functional roof scoop.. start with a sunroof and go from there. Make a replacement panal for the sunroof and mold the scoop into that... this way if you ever get bored of it.. replacing it with the stock sunroof is just a few tools away.

lol HyundaiKitCoupe I don't really want a hood scoop so I can get air into the car. I'll just use the AC

And as far as the 1/4 goes, I'm not dragging my car every weekend, I was just commenting that with a Veilside the hood scoop likes pretty sweet. Besides, if you had a functional hood scoop... and it rained, woulnd't your interior get soaked?

aah truth... but also... with a roof scoop... it could very easily collect water... water and paint... nasty... possible rust situation there... think about it... its a problem waiting to happen

mm... not sure if i had understand this point of this post but:

i think at the beginnings the roof scoop was invented only for one reason. Bring fresh air from the front, for who only had a rear engine.
That's the point. not for car without A/C or else...

Exactly, try to check the Lotus Exige, it has a oem roof scoop (lol!! not for the cabin where the drivers is) but to bring air to the trunk (the engine is there, not on the front)

the frontal air intake were build for a better CX, but that engine (now they had swapped original lotus engine with a toyota 1.8Turbo, the actual celica one) at 7000/8000 rpm was getting always too hot.. so they invent 3 air intake, 2 laterals (like the ones on the Porche Carrera, another rear engine), and one in the "hard top"... and then the situation (i mean the temperature) was more "stable" even after hours of racing..

as they decided to invent this roof scoop in the same way and for the same problems Ferrari invented the air intake un the hood (for both i say *invented* not copied from others... oops.gif ) .. Mitsubishi (EVO-x) had only changed the form of the hood air intake but the objective was always the same.. keep the engine as cool as possible..

To prove this, If you take off the hard top in a Lotus Exige (the cover of the cabin) you will see the air scoop tunnel will always continue on the direction of the trunk..

now, for tuning reasons or not, put a couple of lateral air intake is quite rice i think .. specially if everyone knows that you have a front engine (what are you keeping cool ? the trunk?) .. and the roof scoop was so changed in real air induct for rally use.. (i actually doubt about this "freshing function" dued to the roof scoop) at the 80% of the case is only for a more "racing" look (given by real racing cars) cause the real need of this, brings more troubles than else...

.. am i OT ? oops.gif

bye!

Not OT, just OCD wink.gif

Yeah that's the website that I actually first saw the roof scoop. I've seen a few other Tibs with them too. I mean it looks nice but I'm way too lazy to mold one myself so it's not worth it to me.

...besides if you look at the car too long it just becames stupid lol
