I think they look dumbass, which matches my opinion of a lot of things popular in Europe but not the USA. The question isn't whether anyone else likes the look of your car. If you like 'em, rock 'em.
i do wish i had a set of em for practical purposes, driving down dark country roads.
But i just dont like the look. maybe if i could conceal them behind the grille or something. but maybe is just the nice way of sayin, "aint happening"

^ Oh we could have a whole discussion about how Europe is so far ahead of the U.S. when referring to pollution efficiency, reduced energy expenditure, reduced taxes, and far from their limits of debt but I have learned to withhold from these debates. You have to live there and feel the culture on an a daily basis in order to truly understand why Rally lights are still used today.
In Europe governments don't waste grid electricity by riddling single road with lamps because it greatly reduces pollution and unnecessary bills, and in return they expect people to know how to drive. There's also loads of fog in the evening and early mornings, especially thick towards the end of summer.
They don't have everything handed to them on a golden plate and prefer to care about the environment they live. So when we think Rally lights may look stupid or non-functional, we're only basing that opinion only on its relevance to U.S. soil. Instead, I suggest to think of the BIG picture and on what exists globally. Here, yes they do look stupid and ricey but elsewhere in the world they are respected and useful when installed correctly.

They are statistically decades ahead of the U.S. Maybe not when it comes to roads, but try saying the same thing about their rail system! Ever been to Paris or London metro? Rode a tram right to your front door? They have the Maglev ...and they're backwards?
Not having street lamps doesn't mean they are backwards, it means they are not in demand. In most of Europe, it is a law that stores and businesses close at 5pm because family life/structure are more important (you know your history so you should know this regarding Mussolini's anti-modernist paternalism). All of the streets are always empty at night so there's no need for streetlamps.
You should check out the Goodwood Festival of Speed sometime. It's the biggest and most prominent car show in the world. It'll really brighten your views regarding fog/rally lights. B)
