Ok, I was bored so I finally got around to doing something with my headlights. I heated them up in the oven, seperated the lens from the body, and painted the chrome insert. I painted them with Duplicolor Truck and SUV paint, flat black. This stuff seems to form a plastic layer on the item you paint with it. You will notice I no longer have clear corners. They are a little more fragile than the headlight housing, and I busted one.

The thing is, the high beam reflective surface wasn't touched. The low beam (projector) surface was painted though. I have driven two nights in a row with them like that and have not been able to tell the difference.

I set the oven on warm, let it get to temperature, then put the item in for about 10 minutes with the door open. After painting them, I set the painted part on the door of the oven for faster drying.
they look good java. They'd prob look good on black 2nd gens too, doubt it for the other colors.
I don't really think that painting them is going to have much of an affect on lighting performance, b/c most if not all of the aiming is done behind the projector glass.
I would not recommend driving on the street w/ anything other than the stock chrome, black or silver, though. any colors may create too much tint to the light. and nobody like to see flashing blue and red behind them.
