Okay, this morning the hood finally arrived from Curt at Custom Composite. He was nice enough to even put in the washer nozzles and hose for me.

LOL

Problems:

1. Packing wasn't very good. It was in a huge box, with cardboard reinforcements around the front lip and the corners, but other than that, no bubble wrap, paper, or even a plastic bag. The hood now has some scuff marks on it because of this.

2. No hood latch. While I allready have locking hood pins for it, I still wanted a hood latch to keep it stable and secure.

3. After closer inspection, there is a good pinky nail size chip off the front edge. Looks like it'll be easy to repair however.

Good Points:

1. It weighs 20 pounds. That's it.

2. The quality looks VERY good.

3. Curt put grill material in the vent for me.

Because of the scuffing it will need to be painted before I'm happy with it.

Pics will come later today probably as I am gonna do a test fit and see how hard the hood pins are gonna be to install.

COOL, How long did you wait for it???????????

Does this mean he MAY still do the fenders??? or are you still trying to get a hold of the originals??

He's in PA isn't he?? if so those of us on the east coast prob won't have quite as much shipping damage. HOPEFULLY.

20 lbs, huh?? I may have to get your hood, redz instead of waiting for a good quality CF one.

Unless you want to get someone locally to make your hood in CF???? wink.gif

How long did I wait?

Oh... 6 months or so? I belive the hood was finished in October of last year.

Curt isn't the reason the fenders aren't done, but if I can get the fenders, I don't know if I want to risk that kind of wait again.

Yes, he's in PA.

NEXT PROBLEM...

Curt, for whatever reason, decided not to use the same size nuts in the hood. That's right, had the hood all ready to install but couldn't because the stock bolts won't fit. Same thread pitch, smaller diameter.

WTF?

Curt has just started making these in CF also, but the difference in price isn't worth it to me.

UPDATE!@!!

Okay, I got issues, someone help me...

Okay, had the hood on and had to take it back off. The locking Mr. Gasket hoodpins I've got won't line up. I have the locks installed on the hood but when I try to set the pins in the front crossmember they don't line up.

Hood lock pin is oriented like this because of the shape of the hood...

/

But the pin needs to go into it perpindicularly like this.

I

So it's sitting like this right now.

/
I

I can't lock it.

Any suggestions?

get a bigger hammer. <just kidding>

my g/f has the same hood pins but hasn't installed them yet.
i was going to buy a set when my c/f hood comes in, next week

i hope that someone can help you with this, cuz i don't wanna run into the same thing with my hood

Only suggestion I have, is that:
can you make a shim for the pins that come up thru the hood?
and get them on the same angle as the top locking part?

Well, there's a second problem. Even if I were to get them to line up, I'd have to drill new holes in the crossmember, and it's at a point that's right above another support. It'd be impossible to tighten the bolts.

Really, I'm lost.

how about adding a support bracket? A little bit of heavy gage sheet metal to support the whole thing off of the crossmember?
