My Rattle-can Fender Paint Job!

The guy painting my car wants to have the fenders on the car. They will be painted around all edges first because it will be a different color but then I will have to put them on the car to be painted with the rest of it.
He wants to do it that way so there isn't a chance to damage the paint puting it on after.
So I would say if you are not changing the color leave it on the car.
But I would say remove the corner lights and mud flaps to get good coverage around the edges of the panel.
^^ I would say it is fine to leave the hood on if its going to be the same color.

When I was in school for autobody/paint we always left parts on, and the bodyshops that i have spent time in leave parts on. both ways seem sufficient to me but theres always a chance of scratching when re-installing.

never thought of it that way lol. my brother paints cars before he sells them, and he usually takes the fender/hood off, paint them, dry them for 5 days, then puts them back on. surprisingly, the last car he painted, i did not see any scratch, but i guess thats only cuz i wasnt looking closely lol

For Hoods ive seen shops take them off because its a simple 4 bolt re connect, you have to really try to chip the paint in that case, but you'll prolly need a friend for the reinstall. Leaving it on works as well as long as you dont mind papering up your entire windshield and both your fenders.
i have a question guys: what's the best rubbing compound to fill scratches, and the best wax to use on my newly painted car?
