Dude, that's gotta be the hardest way to paint fenders!! Take it off the car!1! It eliminates all risk of overspray, and there's no need to mask anything off. Removing your fenders is the easiest body part to do. Take out the corner light (1 screw), remove 1 nut in there, then take off the 3 in the engine bay, 2 behind the bumper, 1 that you see when you open your door, 1-2 in the wheel well and 3 down by the mudguard. I had mine off in about 5 min, and back on in 10. Just put it back on today, in fact...
But definitely get that thing off, it will save you such a hassle.

yea i removed the other one to paint it, but i talked to my friend before i topcoated it who owns a bodyshop and he said i should put it back on and tape it up to finish it, it cuts down on the risk of chipping the paint ( i chipped the paint in about 15 places putting the fender back on) after that i topcoated it and clearcoated it. so im doing everything from primer on up riht on the car this time. made my life a little easier :]
Same here, looks good as well. I see no problem painting the fender on the car. Most body shops do it this way. It actually SAVES time, and there is less risk of the paint cracking or scratching when you have to reinstall the part.
does that goes the same for hoods as well? not taking it off and just paint it with covers around it?
never thought of it that way lol. my brother paints cars before he sells them, and he usually takes the fender/hood off, paint them, dry them for 5 days, then puts them back on. surprisingly, the last car he painted, i did not see any scratch, but i guess thats only cuz i wasnt looking closely lol
