I bought a 01 tiby but the car had been keyed with the f-word with previous owner. They spent the insurance money without fixing it but used touchup paint and made it even more noticable. But somehow the keyed parts still showed through. Any idea for a do it yourself approach?

he said the previous owner, not the shop that repaired it.

try to redo their touchup paintjob, otherwise take it to a bodyshop i guess. you should be able to make it FAR less noticable with the touchup stuff though......

^ it depends where and how it was keyed..and the paint fades during time, so the original code of the paint is no longer useful..I had a few scratches on my and used the touch up, which made it better but my paint was not that fade out, but if u look close u can tell the difference..

Its keyed on the drivers side door. Its super deep, primer and bare metal are shoing. Im thinking of using polishing compound to level off the touchup paint to match the paint. then use an auto paint pen (the one that has a point like a pen so it fits into the scratch). finaly i`ll use polishing compound again to help smooth it over. Sound good?

Also, the paint on the whole car is pretty bad. Its black and its faded in spots, scratches and other stuff. Any suggestions or techniques to help shine the car up?

1: just repaint the naughty word with some touchup paint and then use a sanding pen to level it out. then use rubbing compound and polishing compound. it will look much better.

2: Alot of shops will repaint a panel for $75 each. It may cost you $300 to do the whole side of the tib if needed.

owned.gif Ahhhh misread.

If the paint is bad, having a freshly painted panel might look stupid so I'd just redo it the way you said and then save up for a fresh paint for the entire car.

Basicly i just want the f-word gone. At the moment, I dont care about the chips, flakes and other blemishes. I`ll do it tomarrow and i might put up some before and after pics.

Try to touch it up like you planned and if it doesnt work either try to find the same color door on a tib, or just have the area repainted and blended.
