while installing Blacktibs' halos, i had a brainstorm... i had some extra orange tint laying around, and this is what i did.

unfortunately, i suck at tinting, and couldn't get it to NOT bubble.

here's the "PRETTY BAD" part of the topic:
just as i was deciding what to do, the heat gun definitely made it worse, one end pulled away and pulled a teeny tiny part of the chrome off (near the top where nobody could ever see). SO, i pulled it off before it damaged anything else. If you try this, make sure you're a tint god, because it's tough. but if you do, post or email me pics, i'd love to see it successfully done!

don't worry Redz, these are the ones going in my car, yours are just fine! remember, my lights are the practice, experiment and learning tools!

french, eh? ok... :?: the plan is to get a kit next spring and keep the car silver, with an orange flake clearcoat... i thought it would add to the orange sparkle...

Well.. the french do use yellow lamps in their cars for some reason... Personally, I am intending on blacking (or at least a nice gunmetal) out my headlights and side markers.

the write up you posted in the other topic around here somewhere works just fine. the only question i have is, if i put the LED part of the halo up top, will the heat from the bulb melt anything? i've had 3 LEDs up above my headlights within the casing for a year and a half now, no problem. i just worry about the shrink tube. i'd rather have it up top to hide the LED section of the halo.

I know its off-topic, but I think the French use yellow bulbs because they don't blind you when an oncoming car has its high-beams on and they don't glare as much.

they also don't produce as much light, as the road will absorb the yellow color instead of projecting it outward.

I think the orange glow will look nice. Do you have any pictures of it installed or with the headlights on? I think it'll look sweet. Can't wait to see it. I also think it's a good idea having orange flake, but I'd consider a light orange pearl with clearcoat flake on top of that... I think that would look nice... it'd have orange flow through the silver paint as the sun hits it just right... YOU'VE GOTTA LET US SEE PICS!

sorry majik, i had to take it off, i couldn't get the bubbles out, and it started to remove the chrome when i was moving it around, so i nixed the idea. if i was better at tinting, it would have worked. i still have the template in paper if you want it blacktibs, i could scan it and email it to you. it would have rocked, alas, the skills weren't there.

as for the paint, next spring. i have all cold, nasty, &@*%ing winter to save.

Did you spray soapy water before you put the tint in there?
