we are going to have some mesh or something under it right? I don't want leaves and shit piling up in there.

I'm going to have some mesh under mine for sure! But its up to whoever buys I guess. As much as I'd like everyone to have the mesh, it'll raise the price, and that needs to be optional. Some may want black mesh, some may want it to remain silver, but the unpainted mesh will be available to everyone, and its the nice aluminum kind that works well with paint.

Here's what it will look like. If anyone has another design they'd really like rather than this, you have to keep in mind a million little slits, or holes ISN'T an option. Somebody has to lay this carbon, keep the weave right, and be able to make duplicates that look exactly the same, so I'm almost positive this rendering is what will be available soon, and any other design will just be too much work. Too much work makes it harder to produce, and therefore translate in a higher cost, and a higher retail value. Simplicity is everything on this part, so one nice centered vent is the way to go. Other than the vent and lack of the ridges like the stock piece, the cowl will only differ from the OEM in that it is a one piece design instead of the two piece. The GK comes with a one piece wiper cowl, and that's probably something we'll produce for those guys later as well.

So what do you think guys?

I'll post before and afters from two different angles:

I'd think that one would be pretty weak.

Well, we need something that works, and 'works' to me means it is a replacement AND will not crack and break when the high speed winds are pulling on it, and it won't let in large amounts of garbage.

I still think that just doing them plain, with no big ass vent would be fine. Then have them cut a series of 2 sets of 6 slots per cowling, running from front to back.

It'll look good, keep shit from getting in there, and be plenty sturdy.

the one vent looks good and with a good mesh in there it wouldn't let anything in.. and it wouldn't be weak at all. there is plenty enough structure to that piece. unless you punch the thing, its not gonna crack. but for the mesh, i would really think about getting some real plastic mesh custom inserts in there.. it would hold up alot better over time and give it a more stock feel.

the gap doesn't have to be so big and wide you know. i'd say it could be as wide as a pencil. then nobody would need any mesh.

If the vent was a thin as a pencil, it'd be to hard to make the pieces. I'm considering both style and feasiblity to create each one at the factory. Its hard to tell exactly how they'll look, but I KNOW the style I'm bringing them as pictured above will look 10 times hotter when you can see the contours and lines of the stock cowl smoothed out. I almost cant show the lines with carbon, so I'll post up the pics as it'd look in FG so you can see the lines a bit more. There's almost no way to show the depth of the cowl in carbon, since I'm just layering a sheet of carbon from another picture on top of the modded pics of the cowl and adjusting opacity.

To have a fully smoothed cowl, and having them cut small slits into it, was straight up denied to me from the factory, so that isn't even worth thinking about. They just wont do it, whether we think its super cool or not. I admit it'd be nice to have a very involved piece that really stands out as something to spend time starring at, but only if we were making them for M series BMWs. For a hyundai, a 700 dollar wiper cowl just wouldn't sell. For a benz or beamer it would.

So here's the FG look that shows a bit more of the actual shape that the CF hides in the chops.
