Fake Veilside Kits
yeah but as far as veilside kits, we are talking about a 1200$ difference in kit pricing.. people dont wanna spend that type of money..
and about supporting our vendors.. look at the recent support we have been giving, and look what we have gotten in return.....
i say, support vendors and people to an extent, but when your asking 1800$ or w/e veilside is asking for a body kit, that is just rediculous. and then trying to find someone who to get it from, and if you ruin it, itll cost you a pretty penny, when you can go out and buy 4 knockoff kits..
and for AEM, people want the most horsepower for their $, which is clearly ebay knockoffs.
why spend lets say 3500$ in mods when you can get the same result with spending 2000$ less.. just to support a vendor.. it would be a WHOLE nother story if we had hondas or something..

I would gladly support vendors and their original products if they would offer sponsorships for the knock off price, or would just lower their price, I have an AEM intake, and i feel it was worth the $$$... As for veilside body kits, Unless you've got an ass load of money sitting around, I dont see the sense in any one buying it..

A good question.
First of all knock off rip off parts are named for a reason. Theyre stolen designs.
The reason a real bodykit costs what it does is because of the R&D that goes into it. Buying crap poorly fitting knock off parts has long term bad effects, like -
People see an ill fitting kit with a veilside logo and think "man, what a crappy kit, fits like poo aswell !" it also steals a company's design that they paid for.. Can you honestly see Veilside wanting to produce more Tiburon parts just so they can get ripped off and then people say what you did above? "Why spend $3500 when you can spend $2000?" because if you don't then Veilside and co will think "well screw the Tiburon then !" and companies will make less parts for Tibs.
Also, if people actually bought the real ones the price would come down. I used to work in R&D for a speaker company and just like anything else you buy (electronics, phones, cars) the more of them sold the cheaper they can be sold for. So let's say Nintendo release the Wii.. They have already done MILLIONS in R&D before you even get your chance to buy it. That money has to come back from somewhere, hence the high release price. Once that money comes back they can then drop the price of the product and go into the profit stages. If something doesnt even reach the profit stages then it's no more. See the Dreamcast. People would rather have pirated the software, which meant that once the console was sold they didnt put anymore money back into Sega. Sega then stopped producing consoles.
There is no reason to condone piracy, and that's exactly what you have here. I download software all the time. BUT. If I play it for more than 20 minutes I will buy it, last game I thought worth the $45 was Outrun 2006 coast to coast, so I bought it, even though I already had it on my ps2.
Why fit a Veilside if it isnt a Veilside? I just don't seem to be able to understand that. I mean would you wear fake Levis?
If the whole world had your mentality Socks then noone would be making anything. I mean if the general attitude is "why pay xxx when you can pay xxx" then we would all be in trouble. Whats going to happen when there isnt the original concept to rip off? yep, nothing new will come out. Sad fact really.
This is the reason why alot of stuff (electronics, microwaves) are all built overseas now and are built like shit, because people dont want to pay what theyre worth. Take car audio for instance, the new amps are all shit production line authentic Taiwan ! they dont drop in ohms and are built like crap.. Call centers now (dell and others) are all overseas too, it's SOOO f***ing irritating trying to get support from an illiterate Indian when youre having tech issues.
And you know why that is? because someone with the same attitude as you said "I dont want to pay for quality I want quantity instead" and that's why the Made in USA with the quality we used to have is now becoming a very rare thing indeed. because people are slap happy and will settle for shit that looks the same.
One other thing I need to explain. When I bought my CAI from egay I had no idea it was a knock off. I didnt even know what a real AEM CAI was.
And yeah, it's shit. I cant tell you how many times I have had a CEL only to find that the f***er has come apart at the joins AGAIN. In the end I have had to replace the hoses and joining pipe and all of the clamps. And Im now near the cost of the real thing.
I didnt know any better, the Tib was the first car I have ever done anything to engine wise, but you should know better Socks.

Is it any wonder when one of the RD forum leaders is sitting here saying that noone wants to pay for them and condoning using fake parts?
Do you honestly think Veilside dont read this? so how do you think theyll see it? yep, I know what I would say ! "Well, if thats the way the Tiburon community feels then f*** it, wont supply anything else".
The bottom line Socks is that things cost what they do for a reason. If you cant afford them? you cant have them. Simple philosophy really.
You have a number of very good point Pandy, and you are correct if at all possible I totaly believe we should buy from the originall designers. But I do have an issue with some of what your saying.
Even if i wanted one, I for one will probobly not be able to afford a Veilside kit (or any number of other expensive/semiexpensive parts). I COULD afford the nockoff, and have the skill, time, and energy to make it fit my car.
If i did really want it, Should i NOT get the fake and get nothing, just so i dont support a copy cat?
and yes i DO wear the cheap non-levis jeans, and if they happened to say Levis, id still probbobly wear them.

The thing is the mentality is unexplainable tbh.
Why on earth would you want something if it wasnt real? just because of how it looks? It just defeats the entire purpose of having it in honesty.
That's like saying "Well, I got a fake ferrari.. Its slow and crap and doesnt handle well but hey, it looks like one!"
Fact - fake Veilside kits are crap quality. They dont fit right (if they fit at all..) and theyre not the real thing.
Fact - A fake one, even if made to fit is NOWHERE near the quality of the real thing. If it was it would cost the same.
Fact - The reason people who can afford a Veilside buy one is because it's a Veilside. Not because it looks like one.
There was an article in a Tuner mag I got free from when I was working at blockbuster and it had an article on the Honda boys who bought fake Mugen parts and then dissed anyone who spent the full cash on the real ones. Thing was they always had an excuse like "Well buying fake Mugen parts leaves me money for other stuff !" but their logic was flawed because their cars were crap.
Let's face it. Veilside make gorgeous car stuff, so do Cwest. My friend has recently built a Skyline (which now runs over 900WHP) and he spent $8k on a veilside. His brother has an RX7 that produces over 700WHP and he spent $6k on a Cwest. The Skyline has cost him over $90k. And Im sure if he couldnt have afforded it he wouldnt have done it. Cutting corners on something isnt something you should be proud of.
I remember back in my BMX days I had a Schwinn Hydraglide. It was a cro mo one built here in the states. The year after I bought another one as I liked it so much and was tired of changing the tires and rims and everything else from street to dirt. The new one was one of the ones built in Taiwan. It wasnt even Cro Mo and was Hi Ten Steel. Needless to say it was a piece of shit and I never bought another Schwinn again. At the time I didnt realise that Schwinn had sold out for mass production and were no longer manufactured in the USA, so I moved over to SE racing (based in Socal) and spent over $4000 on a bike from them. I didnt want to put my life in the hands of a taiwanese worker who no doubt got paid about $20 a year. And then SE went bust because noone wanted to pay for quality stuff anymore. They then reappeared a couple of years later, crap steel bikes made in Taiwan. I never got another one.
I just dont see how someone could be happy knowing what they have on their car is not the real deal. It kinda ruins it tbh.

You get what you pay for, end of story.
There is a member here that contacted me via e-mail. He purchased a fake Veilside not realizing it, and had to pay more to get the fake to fit, than the real one would have cost. I bought a real one (got in an accident, applied insurance funds towards body kit and paid the rest myself, saved money having a good friend paint the car). The real body kit bolts up perfect, no problems AT ALL. I did it myself, didn't have to pay a body shop to make it fit.
Get the real thing, you'll save money in the end. Plus, if you ever get in an accident or tear it up, you'll get replacement parts at 50% cost. Pretty good deal in my opinion.
By the way, I have a STICKY thread in this same forum, why don't you take a look at it:
http://www.rdtiburon.com/index.php?showtopic=277
This thread is like saying, "What if I buy fake Gucci sandals from a guy on the streets of downtown Atlanta? Will they last one day, or will they fall apart? Which bum can I trust?"
I've been to dozens of car shows, and seen some "work in progress" tiburons with fake Veilside body kits. Some of them are seriously messed up... the headlight holes are off so bad they cut off the top half of the headlights... some front bumpers are about 8-10" too wide for the car, there are almost always gaps around the taillights, and the sideskirts are either too short or too long and have been cut to force fitment. You might get lucky and have only slight imperfections, but look at the car in my sig, riding at FACTORY suspension with 17" wheels... the kit is LOW, and you will scrape. You need a strong body kit that won't chip off, crack, or crumble after you scrape a few dozen times. I've had the kit for... I think 4 years, probably 90,000 miles and been through 2 front bumpers. Take my word on it.

My point exactly. They look like shit and there's a good reason why theyre cheap.
Which takes me back to my oriiginal point. If you cant afford a Veilside you cant have one. And tbh the fake ones are not a Veilside, so thats even more stupid.
When I did my Tib I was on a limited budget. Hence why all my mods/changes were all carried out by me. I mean if I had $10,000 to put into a real bodykit/pro paint I would have, but I didnt buy a ton of fake parts instead.
What I have now is something original. Fake kits are far from that.
Just to clarify this, my friend who brought a fake Veilside did so unknowingly. It was advertised as a Veilside bodykit on ebay, starting price was $400. I think in the end he paid over $700 for it which was cheap even for a fake. But he had no idea it was fake he just thought that someone was selling one they didnt want or need and he had picked it up cheap.
So he took it to a bodyshop who tried in vain to fit it, and in the end they concluded that it wasnt going to fit 'out of the box' My friend then called Veilside to find out WTF and they asked him some questions about it (like please read off the serial #) and he then realised it didnt have one. At that point they requested photos and he was then informed that it wasnt a genuine Veilside and he had been ripped off. Of course they cut off any support for him right there and he chalked it down to loss and a bad experience.
Like me he didnt want a fake, and when his painter told him that even if he force fitted it and used lots of bondo it would look shit ,and would likely fail very quickly, wasting all the money spent on paint and painting. I dont know what happened to it in the end, but he did think about selling it on and I said "Dude that's not cool" - I cant stand people who pass their misfortune onto others, causes bad karma. I know he didnt sell it, he's a good guy like that and soon saw reason.
So my point still stands. Fake kits are crap, and are not anything like the real thing. You are only fooling yourselves anyway, because it will only be people who have no idea what a Veilside kit is that will compliment you. Anyone who knows what one is will immediately be able to tell that you have a fake one, defeating the object of having it in the first place.
It's the same thing with Kit cars. They are SOOO easy to spot that theyre a waste of time. You will only fool idiots, and if you're doing it just for that what does it make you?
I'll leave you guys to ponder that.

just remembered a personal involvement with a fake...
the guy who does all my body work and paint had a guy come in with a fake Veliside kit and wanted it molded to his car. My buddy did it, but knew it was a fake (real have Veilside stamps on the inside of the bumpers and do not come in baby blue colors). He called me to come look at it, because he couldn't believe the difference in mine vs. this fake.
The fiberglass was so thin, you could see light shining through it, even with the baby blue gel coat. My buddy did the work, because he needs cash flow. A month later I saw him driving down the road with the bottom half of the front bumper ripped off, and the sideskirt cracked at the center of the door (speed bumps are a b****). I see the car once every other month or so when I'm in that area... and he's yet to get it fixed. My buddy refused to fix it, and told him to order a real Veilside front bumper and he'd swap them out for him.
The molds to the body are still good, because my friend does good work, but the actual kit has spider cracks all over it, crack in the center of the sideskirt where he got stuck on a speed bump, and missing half of the front bumper (you can't even tell if the front bumper was stock or Veilside, that's how much is missing)
