Escort Vents Etc Part 2
I dont understand what you mean by mould them in.
The edges you mean? theyre about 1mm thick and angled downward. Even on the actual car theyre not like that.
see?

Hmm you know what I have been thinking it over. And my first impression when they went in was "hmm, they look a bit strange" and then I realised why.
The whole car is completely and totally flat white at the moment, it's in prep.
The vents are the only cleared part on the car, so yes they sure would stick out like that..
Add a gnarly paint job and a glossy shine and theyll look cool, infact when I was washing off the sanding residue and the car was wet (and shiny before it dried again) they looked alot better...
I dont expect anyone else to like the color scheme tbh, thats not for people to criticise I suppose, I mean I dont like red cars but I also know that that is just my taste and what I like. I will give kudos for a job well done even if its on a car I hate in a color I hate (like Radek's Eclipse).
If they were not straight, or werent fitted correctly (IE big screws haning out and not epoxyed in) then I could handle that, poor workmanship. However we did a GREAT job of getting them in and even managed to leave the hood bracing intact (we could well have hacked it all out)..
You're trying to give me advise on what your taste is. Try to remember whose car this is smile.gif

Yeah I got that in the end (tired lol) but thats not how theyre fitted even in the real application..
I didnt ask for criticism, heck, I would expect it if we put them in with duct tape or something lol, but theyre fitted as they should be.. Sure, I dont expect everyone to like the color or the scheme, but then I didnt say "check this out woot woot like my car or else !!one111"
Some have seen my choice of rims (the Tenzos) and said "dude I want those rims !!" and some have said "theyre too plain, too drab etc" thats fairy muff. I like them, I want them..
It's hard for me to explain what I am doing here and why. I am going for a really sinister look with black and white (kinda like an old Noir movie) and I have had that vision in my head since the day I got the car..
As I said, in the UK those vents are like that and that's how we do things there. In Germany the VW lot have a craze of using tiny little rime (10 - 13") with massive gaps in the fender wells lol.. Not to my taste but hey, that's what they like..
Maybe when the car is finished and I unveil it I will ask for some criticism, IE "you can see a bit of my bondo work" or something. But to put down a look that someone else is aiming for is kinda pointless.
I mean what next? are we gonna tell people they should paint the carbon hood because its the only carbon part on the outside of the car? It's all about taste..

you did do good work, don't take what i'm saying as trying to take that away from you. it's not the method at all, it's the idea i'm questioning. and also it is your car and in the end it is what you like the most.
to me, lines look alright on the escort because of it's overall boxy shape. we have curvy cars, and the easiest way to break up the flow of that is by having lines where you could very well have none at all.
and on the subject of a carbon hood, i think it's a bit different because you have a large panel that directly lines up with the generally dark color of the windshield. it's not as isolated color wise.
and yeah, if i can't convince you to make the vents the same color as the hood, then we really do have way different tastes. but that's what makes the world go around so to speak, and that's cool.

Of course smile.gif
As I have said all over the place (which is my fault I guess) I do have alot of accent parts.. And theyre all black to match..
I remember seeing a cossie once with black vents and liked it alot, I do like the whole 'sticky out' kinda thing.
I mean not that Im going for attention (but it is nice to get looks) but let's say you were a mustang driver (which also have black vents that dont even vent on the V6 lmao) and you saw a car roll up behind you with white vents. Or one with black vents.
Id bet that youd say "WTF is that?"
LOL, infact that sums me up perfectly, and even Art will vouch for me here. I think everyone who has ever met me has said "WTF is that?" (about me lmao)
Im different dude, very very eccentric. Next week we WILL have the video camera and youll see, there really isnt anyone like me out there laugh.gif

Just like I think that the aluminum foil interior in your picture is ugly tibby01 wink1.gif laugh.gif

Well if you didn't want any criticism, whether it be good or bad then you should't have posted pictures of it if your not ready for the bad...But anyway I'm pretty sure they had a hood similair to that one out I think it is for the rd2 though. It has the vents like your but it also has a scoop, I personally think it is quality work and looks good but it is not MY style... I do have a question though do you really plan on using holographic flake over white? I've seen it done over black and it looks bad maybe white will be more subtle like a pearl almost, but i think it might also show to much of a pink relection most of the time though...But kudos for doing something new...
Hiya Blazin smile.gif
First of all I'm not heavy into criticism. TBH this forum is made up of like minded people, so ragging on anyone doesnt really achieve much apart from lose a forum members.
I'm 33 years old and have been working on cars since I was about 15. I'm no expert, but I make sure I know what I am doing (somewhat at least lol) before I do it. Measure 5 times cut once and all that.
I don't have a problem with constructive criticism, however, when it's all mooted (because someone didnt see a reasoning) then it does get kind of aggravating.
Case in point, my DVD in the dash. Criticism ensued aout not hiding it in the dash but noone thought that it didnt fit. I had to explain this.. I just wish people would realise that I am pretty good at what I do and it's done that way for a reason. It's also pretty silly to tell someone that you dont like the color or the style or whatever else, because all that will do is bum someone out.
When I look at someone's car I dont think "dont like the car, dont like the color, dont like the rims" and so on, instead I think "well painted, lots of thought into that, not my choice of rims however they do go with the car and the styling"
I dont like BMW's. Theyre too well built and overbuilt, and sound very mechanical. BUT. I like Art's because it's unique and one of a kind.. I hope that makes sense smile.gif
So basically I think "well Im not a BMW man but thats a well done BMW"
The hood vents are fitted how they should be fitted, thus, when I get about 4 replies telling me to bondo mount them I get kind of upset that noone thought that they arent fitted that way.. I mean, if I half arsed something I would be the first to admit it lol.
I dont like fast cars either (I dont even ride rollercoasters) but I give mad props to people like Mad John and others who have pushed their engines to the extreme, its awesome to see those guys and their labors of love smile.gif
OK. Thanks for the compliment about the work. I have been working away now for 15 months on this car and it's finally starting to take shape (I even wanted to wash it last week lol) Sadly it's one of those cases where until it's completed it wont look how it should, thus it's very difficult to express what I am doing because only I have the 'vision' of the finished article.
What I am trying to do here is be completely and totally unique. So even though there may be a hood out there that looks similar it's not the same.
As for the holographic flake? here it is over black (waaaay too busy for me, I think someone would get hypnotised and rear end me lol.

Pretty craxy smile.gif
However, you're quite right. Over white it looks completely different. And all it is in reality is kemeleon green to orange flake with white ice pearl mixed in..
Here are some shots of the effect over white (first a badly done sample I did, and then the bottle itself being swung around in varying light sources smile.gif

Please note that the bottle shown is the wrong flake.. Those are .008 hex and the ones Im using are .004 (half the size) I have about 12 ounces all in lol, 1 ounce of which was the wrong hex..
