I called Erebuni today in reference to the F/G hood on their website. The sales rep told me he could get a C/F for me for $200 w/o shipping (normal price $647). The reason behind this is there is a blemish on the hood from particles getting in the clearcoat. The hood itself is not damaged from what I was told. My question is, should I get this or go ahead with the F/G hood? My main concern is safety. I wouldn't want the hood flying off because of it being so lightweight. Thanks for any responses.

Sparco hood pins.

They're a must for any 75+MPH driving with a lightweight hood

200+shipping? Find out how much shipping is first, you might just want to get one from Blacktibs. $450 shipped I believe for FG, and that is NO blemishes.

If the blemish is cosmetic I say go for it. You said you wanted fiberglass, so I'm assuming you were going to paint it. In that case you can get the CF hood and paint it.

As for the hood flying off, I'd recommend hood pins on a CF or fiberglass hood anyway. Fiberglass isn't much heavier than CF and not as strong anyway.

I've had the hood fly up and hot my windshield twice in my old taurus wagon. POS, latch wouldn't hold.

I've been having latch problem for 4 months on my stock hood (only the first latch engages the actual hood popper latch does not). By this I mean when you pull the hood release inside the car it does nothing and I've driven 120+ plenty of times with it like that. It scares my passengers to see it bouncing slightly up and down agaisnt that little metal clip holding it in place.

right now I have a Cf hood on with the same latch problem (not as bad tho) and still no problems.

Don't worry I'm sure it's just cosmetic tho. Try to get a picture from them first to see if it's big and horrifyingly ugly.
Hood pins are cheap and I'd recommend them anyway.

Plus our car's hood hinges do not allow the hood to bend back completely and hit the windshield. Either the four bolts holding it to the hinge would have to break/come loose or both hinges would have to break from the force of the wind, weight of the hood (which isn't much for CF) and momentum of the car. Shipping is $90 U.S.; There hasn't been any news on Blacktibs' RD2 flared hood as of late. I went to the website and it's still not listed for purchase. It would be nice to have, especially since I'm going for that clean visual. I like the vented Erebuni hood as well though.

Maybe I should just wait it out, especially since I can't see the blemishes (via pic or personally) to judge how bad they are. The guy sounded pretty desparate to get rid of it. I'll contact Blacktibs and see what's up.

with any light weight hood, there is always a chance of the wind catching it and we all know what the end result would be. i highly recommend sparco (they are the best! hail.gif ) hood pins. i have them on my fiberglass hood and my hood is still on! tongue.gif plus it looks cool to have hood pins. squint.gif

Ok, I know to get Sparco hood pins for F/G or C/F hood now. lmao.gif Thanks for the advice everyone. I'll try and get a pic of the "blemished" hood from them and post it.... $200 is a pretty steep drop from the normal price.
