Anyone ever heard of paint getting ruined from acid rain?

My friends Eclipse had all these little fade spots all over it. Hes left his car outside in the elements for about a month, and when he took it to a body shop...they said the fade marks were a result of acid rain. Didnt know there was a way to tell what it was from, but I thought paint fading from something like that would come from months and months, if not years of being outside.

Is it possible. Yes. Could it happen in a month? Doubtful, unless that area had some serious 'acid rain'.

Someone dumped an entire 6 pack of monster on my Tib a few years ago, I washed it as soon as I found out but after a month the clear coat on the spoiler and mirrors started peeling off.
I could totally see acid rain doing that IF you lived some place where acid rain is a real problem. Most places, not so much, sounds like a shoddy job and time to get a 2nd opinion.
In my case if it were a dude, I so would have kicked his ass but no such luck. Very long story...
