my headers have a spot for the upstream near the top of one of the runners.

You'll still probably get a CEL if the first O2 sensor is only reading 1/4th of the exhaust. Do you have an additional bung before the flex pipe? That's the best spot for the first sensor.

If you can install a stereo, you can extend the O2 sensor wires. It's really simple. Get as much slack in the wire by unwrapping the stock loom as far as you can. You can unplug the sensor and extend that side of the wiring, which is easier, or you can extend before the plug, which may help prevent a CEL. Then it's simply a matter of securing it under the car.

i was thinking that too fonseca, but i believe the 02 sensors pick up a ratio only, so i think its fine.

I won't get a cel with the upstream sensor in one extractor, and the downstream after the cat...I ran that same setup for two years when I had my HVE/Magnaflow/HKS exhaust with no problems through every driving/weather condition...

thanks for the input, though smile.gif

That's good to know. There have been many comments on Hyundai forums that people with OBX/SSA/Forza headers, which often come with a bung on one runner, need to plug it and get one installed further down. But I'm too lazy to search for any instances where swapping the location actually eliminated a CEL, if indeed it has.

On my setup I was getting a random CEL that would disappear after the car was driven a while. Swapping the sensor did nothing. I haven't had it since I unsoldered and crimped the reference wire only. It could be coincidence, but I was pretty methodical about testing/resetting the ECU, so I think it was somehow related to the reference wire.
