Who builds the best engines in the world
In your opinion, from what youve driven and read in the mags, what engine manufacturer builds the best engines in the world?

Be more specific please.
Best as in most reliable?
Best as in most fuel efficient?
Best as in most powerful?
Best sounding engines?
Best overall engines?
Or do you want an answer for each?

Longevity wise, I've seen LS motors go FOREVER, 300k mi+++ and that's a gasser
I've seen a few ford 7.3L diesels go for 1,000,000mi, and more than I can count on my hands of 500k+
But as stated above you can't answer your question with just one name, every maker has a strong suit.

BS! My Hardbody truck has 465,000 miles on the original motor, never been opened for any reason. It would also easily survive everything they did to that Toyota. Hell, it got stolen with no radiator in it. Thieves drove it 15 miles with no coolant and abandoned it. When I got it back, I thought the motor would be seized. Nope. Put the radiator back in, filled it with coolant and started right up.

Yeah, Hardbodys are the sh*t! I'd take it over a Toyota any day. Mine had nearly 300k when I traded it in. It saw ROUGH hunting season conditions for 20+ years, was beat on, my Dad wasnt the best of keeping up with scheduled maintenance, and all the thing ever needed was a clutch (1), and a TPS sensor! Obvious maintenance items that occationally got tended to, but thats it! Thats why I have a new Frontier sitting in my driveway right now. I plan on keeping it for another 20+ year campaign!

Chebby LS1 is light, compact, powerful, and reliable:
Ford Barra engine is durable and can be configured for very high performance from factory too:
Audi 3.0 TDI V6 is an impressively powerful, frugal, and flexible powerplant too.
Germans europeans have plenty of 'firsts', but that tends to be achieved with lots of complexity and attendant expense and unreliability.
Shout out to mazda for making the rotary engine reliable, also the miller cycle V6s were cool
Shout out to fiat for the twin air motor
But then again innovations come aplenty when the accountants allow it, whatever the company.

lsx was blessed by a touch His Noodley Appendage.
the hardbody while an amazing vehicle will lose to a 22re powered toyota
my old shop had both as shop vehicles the Toyota was a beast that survived hundreds of teenage shop b*tches.
the nissan was the errand vehicle that saw more miles though so we repaired it more still when I left the toy had 550k miles and only got basic service and 1 clutch in its life.

Not Hyundai. Lol.
Mercedes? Their detuned military straight 6 engines (Unimog, for example) are virtually indestructible in stock form.
