Asked this in another thread, but I guess it didn't get seen,... Anyway,...

Addressed at Random, but what does everyone else think?
What are your thoughts on running a lighter weight oil in hotter weather.
Like you're saying, run 5W30 Mobil 1. But what about 5W30 Mobil 1 in like +30 degree Celcius / 90 degree farenheit weather. What are advantages and disadvantages for HLA noises vs Engine wear by running a lighter weight oil in hotter weather?
Just been in the old way thinking of 5w30 for winter and 10w30 for summer weather,...

Thanks

I am a Motorcraft 5w30 man myself, and 10w30 in the summer. Engine revs smooth and runs quiet. Use to be kinda harsh and noisey before with Castrol. but the numbers prove MC is a good oil.

When I goto turbo I will be adding a 1/3 bottle of valvoline oil treatment.

why? It adds about 700ppm of Moly. good stuff. also raises viscosity a little as well.

I would NOT use 5w30. It likes to sheer down to 5w20 in as early as 3500 miles.

but the 10w30 and 10w40 can last up to 10k miles smile.gif

If you really want good stuff. find the German Castrol Syntec only comes in 5w30 and is green colored. Last up to 15k miles, easy.

Rumor is USA castrol syntec will change to this formula, if it does I am changing.

Regular Castrol and Havoline are like just oil not additvies. Castrol has like 20ppm Moly.

Redline is like 600ppm moly

Royal purple is like 170ppm

M1 is like 70 ppm of Moly

Subaru factory fill contains 300ppm moly

Honda oil is 200ppm moly.

Wana know more? Wanna see how your oil stands up?

They have Virgin oil samples to see whats going in.

And used oil samples to see what it has done.

They also test oil filters and air filters. And yes there are some samples from Beta motors. I think we have 2 tiburon guys and 3 elantras boy and a couple sonatas and santa fe, so that covers the V6.
