Ticking Under Extrem Load
Well when I go and auto-x the car it starts to tick. The tick follows along with the RPM its is contunuous I thought it Might be the valves but I don't know how to tell. What can I do to try and diagnose this problem. I have 9000km left on my waranty but the dealer won't look at it unless it happens at the dealership. The problem is I can't auto cross my way to the dealership withoug getting killed. So you see what can I do to try and figure this out before its too late?

Look at this topic and try what wec2002 and random explained (if your oil is in fact topped off). It could be a little gunk in the lifters.
VVV ahh, I assumed he would of seen the dummy light go on with that. Ive seen the dummy light flash on when taking a turn too fast and having the oil slosh away from the pickup.

The problem isn't the HLA's is the oil in the pan sloshing away from the pickup, dropping your Oil pressure. That Ticking is letting you know your engine is temporarly starving for oil.
XtremePC built up a really nice baffled pan with an extra quart or 2 of capacity. I think he posted photos of it somehwere. If not, I think Jaws021 has one as well. I'll have to rip it off his car an take photos. He won't notice, he's driven around the block a few times with no oil pickup ninja.gif lol.gif
Anyway, the moral of the story is that you need to either baffle your stock pan, or install/make/buy a new pan with baffles. The added capacity sump is just a bonus.
I've had the same problem on my old 99 doing crazy mountain roads (Decker Canyon again anyone?) The other tibs along for the drive had the same problem. After about 120 seconds of idling, the HLA tick goes away as the oil comes back to the pickup and then pumps up the HLA's again.

You could also run a little over in oil. I prefer to run half a quart MORE than the car calls for. With the spirited driving I do, I find it helps to keep the engine well lubed, even if does mean that on a hard 270 degree turn from one highway to the other, I can force enough oil up into the head that it flows through the breather and into the Intake, and out the exhaust like a james bond gadget. I try not to do that.
Conversely, if you wanted to build an engine for autoX.. I would see about a Beta2 head or even running Beta 2 lifters (if they fit) as they are not Hydraulically adjustable, but use solid shims.

I checked out that topic. It all looked like good Ideas but I am starting to think it is oil starvation more than the gunk. Though next oil change I will be flushing the system anyways just to be safe. i think it sounds like random has the right Idea.
Oh and there has been no dummy light though.

Some pics would be great I am going to keep my eyes open and look for them. If anyone finds any I would like to build a baffle like that.

I think next time I auto-x i am going to try going a little over oil if i haven't built a sump.
Thanks a lot guys

I just spoke with Jaws021. He's going to bring over the PAN tonight.
Jebus, that would be cool. I hate the ticking sound. I get it everyonce and a while after some "Spirited Driving" as Mad-Machine so eloquently put it.
How tough would it be to create something like that. I have to drop my oil-pan to weld the bung for my oil return line. I wouldn't mind a little sunshine on this subject.

Well, Jaws021 stood me up(just like a b****), so no pan photos tonight.
I'll swing by his place and just yank the sucker off...he'll never notice till the motor seizes up.
For the Beta1
It's cheap and easy to do if you can weld, or know anyone who can weld.
For the Beta2....
Cast aluminum pan...sorry boys. You'll need to convert to a beta1 oilpan.
