Default Valve Lash and its effects

So I've been reading a bit about valve lash and its effects on engine performance...

Are the specs on our cars for lash so tight that moving around in the suggested range wouldn't be noticeable or would there be some noticeable effect from certain configurations?

For example, let's say you staggered the intake lash so that one intake valve was .005 and .007 on the other...

Or let's say you put your intakes on the tight side at .005 and exhaust on the loose side at .009

Would the engine behave differently just at idle or throughout the operating range?

Is it worth experimenting at all?
