Yesterday I got a CEL (P1128). I think this is an indication of a vaccum leak. Has anyone had this before?

Yesterday I cleared the code, drove around the block and it didn't come back. This morning, when I was driving to work, it came on about 30 minutes after driving (about 10miles). It's making me think that it's coming on with a hot engine. A friend of mine told me that it could be an indication of a cracked head. What do you guys think? I'm praying that it isn't!!!

It's an indication of many things.

Do a search for Vacuum Leak and you'll see a ton of advise to find it.

I've posted a few ways to find em.

Thanks, Redz. Will do. My friend scared the heck out of me when he said the words, "probably cracked head". I thought of dozens other possibilities, but this is not one I want to deal with.

Cracked head is about 30 down the list. Far more likely would be a cracked exhaust manifold (which is a common failure, and replacement can be free to you, thanks to Hyundai making it a part of the catalytic converter)

My car throws a P1128 more than it used to, but it has done intermittently when it's cold/wet weather, for years. There is a troubleshooting matrix on hyundaitechinfo.com if you really want to eliminate it.

^^ Thanks, man! Makes me feel better to have someone confirm that this is one of the more unlikely causes wink1.gif

I think the matrix you're referring to, was posted here by DTN, on a P1128 thread. It's pretty helpful. It'll really help, the only problem is finding time. With Christmas, work crunch-time, interior work on the tib, writing up an RSX seat swap diy, ..., it's hard to find time. I'm planning to look into it during Boxing day weekend.
