Well I got out of a movie today to find the Tib lying in a pool of Transmission Fluid. I've recently (2 months ago) drained and refilled with Redline Mt-90 which I was very impressed with but now it's all on the ground in the Cinema Parking Lot.

I jacked it up to see what was up and the drain plug is still on there tight, but all the fluid was dripping from around there. I looked all around the tranny and thankfully didnt find any chunks missing from the case or anything like that, and it seems that its dripping from here (circled in red):

I looked everywhere I could using the stock jack and no jack stands, and couldnt see fluid above the CV axle, but there was definately some directly below it...

Ideas? It may be simple but I'm not too big on tranny stuff.. I need to know ASAP so I can tow it to the proper place or if Id be fine filling it up and taking it slow to the nearest shop.

Ah, screw it. Ill just rent a dolly and take it in on Monday. Let them tell me whats wrong then Ill decide how to go about fixing it. I got a spare tranny on my parts Tib but its got 128k on it...

 

Pull the CV shaft and replace the seal. Really not to bad of a job at all.

 

axle seal.. about 4-5$ at hyundai.

pretty easy job, maybe a bit messy, prob about a good hour or so of solid work

also could be a popped out axle.. happened to me once.

 

from what i have read and where you have marked in the picture i will also agree, CV seal.

Thanks to those who responded, it was indeed the axle seal that needed replacing. The shaft had come out a bit as well so it was losing fluid FAST. I threw 2 quarts in and drove it as carefully as I could back to the house, leaving a trail of gear oil behind...

Its all fixed now tho, so now to find some more Redline Oil to refill with..
