Default tranny rebuild

my synchros (i'm pretty sure) are shot. i have redline mt-90 with lucas stabilizer in there. basically, i got a used tranny when i did the swap, had gl5 oil in there (really bad for our synchros), and then had an oil leak and drove around low on oil for a while. so, what should i look for in a shop? should i avoid the national shops (aamco, lee miles...)? about how much does this cost? or, how hard is it to do? i'm not afraid on wrench work (i did the tranny swap), but i've heard rebuilding trannies is a b****.

transmissions and differentials are two things I do not do.. too many close tolerances and special tools needed. I would ask around several different "Speed shops" or other "tuners" (I still hate that term) and see who they recommend.. I do know that AAMCO does have a nice warrenty on their work.
