Everything has been good with the Tibby for a while now but I think the tranny is acting up. (I have an A/T aka "autotragic" and 49k on the Tibby))

I noticed this yesterday as I was driving to school. My foot wasn't pushing the gas pedal hard and the rpm's shot up to 4500. I kind of brushed it off but then I noticed the tranny wasnt shifting like normal and if I was slowing down without the gas, I'd hear a clunk noise and I'd get kind of jerked back.

Today when I was driving to work, I took the advice of not pressing the gas pedal too hard when I accelerate but still the tranny ended up shifting at 3500 rpm from 2-3. Later on today, I shut my radio off to listen and to see if I wasnt just making this up; and I was driving normally once again, foot not pushing the gas pedal hard at all, and the tranny was about to shift into third and after it hit 2500 rpm I heard and saw it rev real fast into 3000rpm and then finally shift. I noticed this is happening when it wants to shift from 2-3.

My friend first noticed this a couple days ago just by listening to the car..because it sounded like it should shift already but it didnt.

I did full transmission service on my baby about 3 months ago and I only put 5k on her since then.

Any help guys??..

how well did you trust those guys that did the work?

Its really easy to sabotage an auto tranny..

If you know how to flush the tranny.. do that. If you see flakes of metal.. get ready for a new tranny. IF you see any foreign material... thats the shop.

My dad actually did the tranny service for me so of course I trust him fully. I know the last thing he'd want is to mess up my car.

I'll try and flush my tranny later today and see what I end up with.

oh ok

flush out the tranny then... metal flakes= bad tranny

You can get one cheap from a junkyard, or you can pay over twice as much to have it rebuilt.

Or, if it's under warranty take it to Hyundai. My tranny went bad at 70K and I had a brand new one put in for free. Thank the lord b/c I wouldn't have wanted to pay for one. I had the opposite problem though, mine was getting stuck in a low gear. Good luck, I know how much of a PITA it is.

My tranny still runs pretty well up to this point. Might want to inspect some things at 70K though.. I'll prolly drop in a brand new tranny just before warranty expires... tongue.gif

^Its at the normal range for both hot and cold..I checked the fluid today.

I drove it again a half hour ago and this time I was still in first and the car kind of hesitated a bit and then went. Still the same deal with 2-3 shift..went up to 3500 rpms.
