So today on my way back from school, I was slowing down to make a left turn onto my street and when I went to accelerate it barely went anywhere, I just heard this weird bogging sound so I put it into neutral and then back into drive and it started shifting fine again. Then it did it again right as I was turning into my lot infront of my townhouses, so yeah I rolled down the hill in neutral, parked, and it is there to stay. Hopefully Casper will help me out with my springs this Sunday while the car is still sitting around.
I don't care what the problem is, the tranny is still CRAP. Hyundai is taking it in Tuesday morning to see what's wrong with it. The tranny is shifting 1-2, and 2-3 shift pretty bad now. The tranny has always been a POS, since I got it. I am going to take the advice of like 90% of the forum members here and get a TRANNY SWAP! Hyundai said a brand new auto transaxle would cost $2500 incase it was pretty much dead.. any idea on how much a manual swap would be? The service guy said it would PROBABLY be way less so I dont know what that means.
So the car is gonna chill for a little while.. get an Intrax spring drop, 5-speed swap, and hopefully I will then be back in action.

It sounds far from dead to me, but yeah, do the swap anyway ^^ smile.gif
My old blue tib used to occasionally get stuck in 4th, but it was weird, all I would have to do is pull over, shut it off, and whenever i restarted it it would always work just fine. It probably did this like once every month or two?
Anyway, get a tranny from ebay or car-part.com, and then swap (even if you find out the auto tranny is still ok)! good luck

Hey man,
Your local to me... Come to the U-Pull-It that I go to (pennsburgh) and we'll get everything you need for under $200.
I got a whole motor & trans for $165...
I am not sure if they have any tibs in there now (been a while since I went last).
As for the auto tranny... Did you check the tranny fluid? Any codes come up? I can bring my scanner with me on sunday if needed.

If you don't plan on doing the swap yourself it might cost you close to $1500-2000. Parts will cost you somewhere around $700-800 I think, but I remember you talking about spraying, so I'd get a better clutch and lighter flywheel while you are at it.

Welll Hyundai quoted $2220 for a new tranny.. so f*** that.
Wouldnt a manual be cheaper from the dealer anyway? And how much cheaper? MAYBE < 2000.

you mean people buy stuff from the dealer?
it would be about 1000 cheaper for you to pay faith labor&parts to take out a practically new manual tranny, box it up, and ship it to you from abq.
not saying he would be willing, just making a point. never buy stuff fromt he dealer, unless its small or free warranty work.
