It slows the return of fluid from the cylinder to the reservoir, slipping the clutch to slow disengagement instead of releasing the clutch immediately. This is supposed to make it easier for a n00b, but if you know how to drive it can only be a source of irritation.

Hey. So I finally got the part in today and I was wondering if anyone knew how to install the clutch slave cylinder. Any help would be appreciated for when I go to replace it in a bit. I was also wondering if it has to be bled on the tranny still or on the bench. Thanks guys!

Loosen the banjo bolt/hose connection while the slave is still bolted down, because the cylinder mounting bolts are as good a clamp as you are going to get. Other than that, it's a pretty straightforward remove/replace job.
