tibby engine swap question
does anyone know if its possible without messing with the drivetrain if i could drop a jspec h22 in my tibby, of course ill need custon motor mounts. but is it possible or maybe a b18 i dont know just looking to do a swap and dont know what engine i want to work with. what i was going to do was buy a motor used, build it completly until i feel thats enough and then swap and rebiuld old one. but i want the one i buy to be alittle better than whats in my 99' tibby a DOHC 2.0.
thanks for all everyones help.

lets nip this in the bud REAL quick. With a LOT of work you could drop a v8 into a tibby... However, that bit of being a smartarse out of the way... here is the skinny on Honda engines.
Except for the new K series, ALL honda engines are a REVERSE ROTATION engine. What this means for the ricers and such.. the engine rotates backwards from almost every engine produced out there.
Ok... that said, to drop a H or B series honda engine into anything you either have to bring the tranny along too (to handle the reversed rotation... unless you really like have a SUPER low first gear and five reverses) or you beed some VERY expensive cams made up to allow the engine to rotate normally.
Any questions?

a JDM mitsu 4g63 will fit........
But why dont you just go look on ebay.....there are usually at least 1 or 2 Beta's for sale.... buy one of those and build it, then do your swap.......
The Beta Engine handles boost very well......3-400hp is easily attainable.
The axels for that amount of power however are not....although a couple ppl on HP.com had talked about getting them made, and i believe at least 2 sets were made.

Yeah, swap swap swap.
Why?
The Beta is a GREAT engine, I've even got pictures of a 1000 HP Beta in Korea, stock block, just updated internals.

noooooooooooo it will not. the transmission faces the wrong side. Now an EVO VII/VIII 4g63 will fit but then youd have to get a tranny to go with it, dont know if the beta tranny will work or not, i really havent researched the swap myself.

ahhhhhhh someone HASNT done their research. First of all to get 3-400hp out of the beta you need a stand alone unit that is MAP based.
Second, you need to totally rebuilt the tranny and the beta internals. The beta BLOCK is a good block but its INTERNALS are crap.
as for my recommendation dont swap it. Ive seen the prices on honda engines and for the same amount of cost and work you can get your Tiburon to a higher HP level than you would with a stock H22. Dont look down on the beta because it has potential it just needs work.
thanks everyone fotr the advice, i dont have a problem with the beta just need another motor to work on the one i have has 100,000 miles on it. i'd rather buy little newer and rebiuld it from the ground up. any can help me find one it whould be great. only bad thing is im in college so it whould a little while before i get the money up for it maybe a month or two.

MY 1st quote : Check out the link below.......the guy posting the pics is in singapore......do you think thats a US mitsu engine????
MY 2nd quote : I said it would be farily easy (ok, you kinda got me on that one, I SHOULD HAVE SAID "It would be fairly easy as far as rebuilding an enigine is concerned , sry)....not cheap.....and real-engineering does MAP based ECU tuning, for hyundai's

Best swap is a turbo kit for the Tib =P
Second best would probably be an Evo VIII swap.

and this a couple months later....

im actually strongly considering a 4g63t swap into my Tib as well. It'll be just as cheap to do that then to redo all the internals, standlone and upgrading the tranny.

Im not going to argue w/ you though.....just go re-read this little topic here.
(and note the 1st pic)
Evo4, SR20 Tiburon
if you're looking for power, why don't you just buy another beta (like the one you have) with like 10k on it (about $400), and turbo it then drop it in.
total probably be like $2500
