VHR is the best you can get really, they also make the OEM setup.

Kspec.com and Rick can get them.

 

If you are going to go with a lighter flywheel.. now is the time to do it. Consider that it probably has to come out anyway to get refinished.. the little bit extra ontop of that is not a big nut to crack.

 

I was having the same problem. Hyundai told my mechanic it would be over a month before they could ship out a replacement clutch and flywheel. In the intrim, I ordered the VHR the mechanic put it in but it doesn't work. Rick had my mechanic call his in CA and they both said it was defective. Rick is under the impression that it was installed wrong. I don't know what to do. Any duggestions from anyone on what can be wrong or how to tell a mechanic that he farged up without pissing him off? He got the clutch installed but it won't go further then half way to engagement and I've been without a car for 4 weeks. Rick won't refund it or ship out a new one and my mechanic is threatening to charge me tripple for having to take it apart and put it back together 3 times just so it's not taking up one of his lifts. HELP!!!!

 

I don't know what to tell you dude. I would either do the install myself or have the dealer install it. That way its either all my fault or all their fault. I don't know the details, but I would probably agree with Rick on this one and say it was installed wrong somewhere.

Without pissing him off? Hell, I wouldn't care about him getting pissed or not. Its his job to install it right, and make sure it is installed right. Take it to another mechanic (tow it) and have him look at it. If he says its defective, then you have yet another case for Rick. Go to Judge Judy and plead your case (If you can't get Judge Judy, the Better Business Bureau would work lol.gif). If both mechanics testify that its defective, Rick would have to pay for the fees that were incurred in making sure it was defective. If you take it to another mechanic and they say it was installed wrong, then hey, you can make the other mechanic pay for the damages because he installed it wrong.

 

Anyone have the DIY for a VHR clutch? Looks like I might wind up doing this one myself.

 

Check the auto/manual DIY. It has a Valeo clutch install. Same premise. Go to hmaservice.com and see if they have how to drop the transmission if the DIY does not have it.

 

I just installed my VHR clutch and used to clutch DIY in the DIY section here, it covered most of the bases. Maybe he installed the clutch disk backwards? If the mechanic put it together and it doesn't work, he oughta get it working, that's the deal no?

 

Ok well maybe you guys can help me talk to this mechanic. What would be the symptoms if the disk was installed backwards? That is even if you could get the car back together with it incorrectly installed. He says everything fit and he got it back together but when he tries to depress the clutch it only moves about half way to engagement and that's it. He doesn't get it to engage far enough to even trigger the ignition.

 

Yes, it could have been installed backwards. I don't think the transmission would bolt up afterwards, but hey, I've never installed a clutch backwards. lol.gif

If he is a mechanic, he should of bled the system properly. Make sure he bled it and he adjusted the clutch. These are simple things that a mechanic should know, but hey, some aren't that smart. Like Hyundai mechanics. lol.gif

 

How hard do you think this will be for someone with almost no experience to do by just following directions? I already did my resonator removal, intake install, slave cylindar mod and reverse indaglo gauge install myself. I know none of it was a huge project or anything to brag about and didn't require much mechanical skill but still had to follow instruction and was able to find my way around the car without a hitch. Bottom line is that Rick won't refund or replace or pick up the bill on the extra labor and I can't afford to pay the mechanic for a third reassembly.
