HDK has cams starting at $250 or $300. HVE's prices are Austraulian dollars, and with the current exchange rate...cut those prices in half, and that is close to what it would be in US dollars.

So would it be a good idea to pay $220.00 for this item...thats including install. $120.00 for cam. 100.00 for install. For 10HP increase..nice nad cheepiue mod.. ) Wish I wold of heard of this little trick prior to my SR order....which ever...two weeks then..hehe...What are some BAD thing that can go wrong with changing your CAMS? Please let me know of all bad reasons to do this mod.

OK, looking to road race with mine as soon as I get it done so till then I will be drag racing. I got a 2k01 elantra. Which cam is good for overall use and still be an all around cam with turbo/supercharger and/or NOS. Dont want to change out cams and then find out when I add NOS and or a supercharger (maybe a small turbo) and then have to change out again. Thanks in advance.

I got a cam out of a 1.8L elantra works fine. No problems except that I broke one the bolts that holds the cam. But it was easy replaced. The main thing it getting the marks set in the right position with the right number of links between them. 1.8 cam will give you more torque not much extra hp. I noticed that it seems to more peppy in the mid to high range then before. But that is just my .02.

You need to decide on an engine "plan" if you don't want to swap cams again at a later date. All cams are a comprimise. Low emissions, or high end power. Midly bad emissions, and mildly improved performace...or horrible emissions and poor low speed drivability, but a killer top end.
Plan what you want. Forced induction cams are VERY different than N/A or Nitrous cams.
The bad News....having the new beta motor, with the new head without Hydraulic Lash Adjusters means that more than likely, all the current cams will not work for your motor. You will need to wait for cams to be made for that motor.
OBDII means On Board Diagnostics Revision 2. The engine's ECU is capable of reading a host of different sensors...and adjusting the fuel delivery, spark advance, etc, etc to keep emissions low. It mainly focuses on the o2 sensor, fuel delivery, and spark timing. Every car sold in the USA after 1996/97 has them. They are now working on the standards for OBDIII, which should hit the streets in 2004.
FastShark You will NOT get 10 HP out of the 1.8L intake cam! The 10 HP figure was for the HVE CAMS, and those are NOT $120!!!!! At current exchange rates, they are $637.45.

To the best of my knowledge, no one has them installed yet.
they should be between these two...
240 degrees of druation, 0.390" lift, 15 degress of overlap: cam works well from 700-6500 RPM, smooth as can be. Relatively low emissions
265 degrees of duration, 0.420" lift, 30 degrees of overlap: good street cam, pulls well from 4000-7500 RPM, slight lope to idle. Idle at about 900 RPM. Might pass a smog test. Might work with OBDII. Works well with most bolt-on power mods like Header, exhaust, air intake. Car feels fun to drive on the street and is most likely more responsive than stock almost everywhere in the powerband. Most people should stop here.
