Go with a slightly used engine. There's a good chance that with 175,000 miles even with new rings the cylinder walls would be worn out too much for those new rings to cope with. Like everyone said a used engine is cheap but as a rule make sure the flywheel or clutch (whatever is still connected will turn by hand (if it doesn't then i wouldn't buy it).

Make sure you're getting what you want. Most junkyards will quote you the BARE engine (meaning the block and head only, sometimes JUST THE BLOCK!). If you are wanting manifolds, coilpacks, accessory pumps and pulleys, mounts, et cetera ask and make sure it's included in the $150. Or simply demand it. =)

thats a damn good price for an engine. i checked with a local junkyard for engine prices and they want $850 for an engine with 23,000 miles, $550 with 98,000 miles and $300 for one with 341,000 miles and it smokes, rattles and has a weak oil pan.
are these prices ridiculous?? i would have to prostitute myself out for that kind of money. joke.gif

For a Beta yeah, those prices are quite a bit high.

I'd check online, even after shipping its usually cheaper to buy online.
