I have a failing fuel pump and my rings seem to be wearing out. Would you drop a new engine in or replace the parts?

btw the car has 175,000+ miles on it...

Well the fuel pump has nothing to do with the engine. It's in the gas tank. If it's failing, replace it. If the rings are worn (I'm assuming you have done a compression test to determine this), it may be more cost effective to buy a low mileage engine and just replace it rather than rebuild your current one.

That makes more sense! If I were you I would look for a good, low mileage engine from a wrecking yard or someone here and install that.

change the engine, or buy wiseco pistons and rings and build it up of you don't need the car for a few months. if i were you i'd change the engine if you're daily driven.

i just saw my friend who is building his engine, he hauls it in his trunk haha.

i would get a low-mid mileage engine and drop it in.. you can pick up a full engine, from the valve cover to oil pan, including the throttle body and manifold for like 300-400$.

Id say get a new engine too..not only is your current one filled with miles but theres some serious things that are messed up.

If you go to a junkyard, you def. can get a new engine for $400 or so.

how long would it take an average mechanic to haul an engine out and put another one in?

without installing new part when i did my turbo install i could have had the old one out, new back in and running in a weekend. maybe even a full day if everything went real smooth. ive done engine swaps before and have use of air tools and engine hoists.
