Default Short ram vs sticking filter on end of airbox tubing

When comparing a short ram intake to just sticking a filter on the end of the stock airbox tubing, which one actually gives better results? Wouldnt the airbox tubing be better because its plastic, and it doesnt absorb heat as much as the metal tubing you get with a short ram?

On your car you could lose 20 pounds of unnecessary plastic if the XD2s have that stupid box snorkel thing in the bumper. As far as the temp based on material, I doubt it would change the air temp that much as it moves through since it doesn't hang around in that pipe long. As far as what is better, depends on the presence of crazy bumps, size, etc in the stock pipe and I doubt anyone has dyno'd it to prove anything. On my XD it really liked the CAI going into the bumper and was meh on the shortram. I think the metal pipe would make it sound better and might get you a hoofs worth of a horsepower difference in what makes it to the ground switching to the cheap metal pipe thing.

I have heard of issues when you stick a filter right on the end of some hyundai mafs, so good luck with that.
