Got started on my timing belt and water pump replacement and I hit a snag. I cant get the main pulley off the end of the crank, i can get a breaker bar on it and turn the motor over, but that doesnt do me any good. I got my shop jack out and lifted it against the pulley with a 2x4" but it still spun. I am in search of some sort of a clamp or a vise to hold the pulley, im sure the tool for it has exist, somewhere, if I cant find that im gonna buy an airgun, ive been putting off puying one until i needed it, now I need it. How does everyone else do this? is there another way to pry against the puller to keep it from moving?

If cranking the engine doesn't work then .... you must be doing something wrong, that puts a lot of torque on it.
That's what most people do, it should work..

almost 2500 posts... going to say this once.. and only once.. SEARCH! I have mentioned how to do it several times in the last couple of months.
Zoned is right about cranking the engine.. just make sure it cannot start when you do it.

put your breaker bar on the ground and crank your engine. pop it spins the bolt right off. when you do it make sure the belt is still on and take the plug wires out b4 trying. this way the motor will spin but not start your car. always worked for me.
or get a air gun.

I tried cranking the engine & also the 1/2inch rattle-gun, but mine wouldn't come off, so I ended up getting hold of a BIG-ASS compressor and a 3/4inch rattle-gun & that shifted it.

^^rattle gun wtf? lil bit of hillbilly slang there?
its a impact gun. 1/2 inch should have done it. you do know that you have to add oil to the line sometimes rite?
so call? did you get it?
