Default question

Hey all,
I first gotta give props to sharkracing.com!
My first order from them was delivered to me today.
That was my best net order experience to date. The part made it to me 2 weeks after I ordered it.
Korea to Toronto.
That is awesome service. Good work!

So anyways I am talking to a mechanic at work and I mention that I am looking now at camshafts. He asked if they came balanced? Yes I thought but was not sure. Has anyone had aftermarket cams put in?
-Was it a big job?
-Do the cam's come with new bearings?
-who makes good aftermarket cams?
-What can I expect the car to run like with this mod?

If anyone can help with any advice, ?

Thanks

Tony

-Depends on your mechanical skills and how familiar you are with BETA's. (Hyundai Webtech will familiarize you with everything) Should be a couple hour job for the ave. mechanically inclined.
-the Hi-Cams from SR i don't think come with new bearings but will work with stock valve train.
-RPW is reputable, SR i dunno but i believe with the customer base that they have, they wouldn't put crap out. I was told to stay away from 're-ground' cams as certain problems associate with them (can't remember what though) I think cat-cams are reground cams but thats a big I THINK.
-Fuel economy not sure...probably lose a few mpg due to the overlapping of the intake/exhaust. I would expect a slighty lopier idle but who knows.

From what I've heard, the cams that sharkracing put out ARE the RPW cams. But another company that has cams is K-spec. www.kspec.com. Now it ALSO really depends on if you're going to turbo charge your car. If so, you will definitely want to get cams made for this to avoid too much valve over lap (too much valve overlap results in boost blow-through). Since the beta's have what I would consider to have linked timing. There is only one cam gear so you cannot retard or advance either one of your cams seperately. But if you're going to go N/A just get a N/A cam.

i believe you can advance or retard your mechanical timing...i think that's what i heard, otherwise there wouldn't be cam gears out for the betas. but i do think that its a very mild retard/advance.

you can't advance/retard timing of the intake and exhuast cams separately. if you get an adjustable cam gear, you'll be adjusting the timing of both cams together.
