Will the accessory pulley's be cheaper than the crank?

yes, cause less material will be used, and I think they are easier to machine.

Just for avoiding misunderstandings:
you are talking about all the 3 pulleys, isn't it ?

1st) Crank Pulley (optionally underdrive)
2nd) Power Pulley
3rd) Water Pulley

with "accessory pulley" do you mean the last two or else ?

BTW: i would prefer a perfect oem replacement but in titanium, so that no need to look for different belts etc..

i'm soooo curious to see what it will be about these pulleys. I'm really interested, escpecially on the final price of those wink1.gif

keep the thread updated as soon as you can rolleyes.gif

I can make any pulley in Al or Ti if you send me drawing or stock pulley.

I'm thinking about:
-crank pulley
-water pump pulley
-power steering pulley
-maybe a/c pulley

EDIT:
if everything will be ok, there will be an option - polished titanium

As for the alternator pully, wouldn't changing the size effect battery charging? Unless you're going to leave it the same diameter as stock then it wouldn't matter.

Polished titanium is hot!!! I have a polished titanium wedding band, and it looks absolutely beautiful.

The thing is guys, Titanium is too heavy. Its WAY heavier than Aluminum.

Let's go with some high strength LIGHT aluminum.

We need to get some RD1 and RD2 Pulleys, there are differences.

cause titanium is more strong than aluminium, I can try to do pulleys with less material (for example bigger holes, etc).

If to go with underdrive pulley, which is smaller I can also do a smaller alternator pulley, so gear ratio (angular speed, RPMs) will stay the same. But It would require new belt.

There's a guy on newtiburon.com making these cheap. Try getting some info from him.

The problem is though, WEIGHT. That's why you do lightweight pulleys in the first place.

Aluminum is 67 TIMES lighter than steel. Titanium is 47 times HEAVIER than aluminum. Aluminum is plenty strong for what we need, and the good thing is that aluminum has a decent elasticity range to it's crystaline structure. Titanium, although VERY STRONG, is neither tough or ductile. This means that aluminum pulleys would give a bit under driving conditions, flex just a bit. Titanium won't. Instead of bending with a elastic tendancy, titanium just snaps.

NOT GOOD.

This is a reason why almost ALL aftermarket pulleys are made of aluminum. It's very lightweight, VERY easy to machine (Titanium wears out CNC machines and lathes VERY quickly), and ductile.

Personally, if something were to happen, I'd rather have to replace the pulleys than the engine.

I've been having one of my engineering teachers coach me on this, and he fully agrees.

I'm often amazed at how my name gets spread around. laugh.gif I was referred to this post by REDZMAN.

First off, they'll be aluminum. Titanium is both expensive material, and expensive to machine. There's also no need whatsoever to use it for this application. Aluminum does the job very well. It can also be anodized a wide variety of colours.

Second, is there any members in the Toronto Ontario area that are willing to contribute to the project? I need pulleys to go by, and preferrably a car to make sure there's clearance.

If not, i can have some shipped here for measurements.

After i've got measurements, i can post some firm pricing. I expect crank pulleys to come in at around $110-$130 USD, shipped within north america. Alternator pulleys would likely come in at around $60 or so, and the waterpump around $80. (based on what i've seen of the BetaII tiburons. Last two prices are without shipping, as they'd just be shipped with the crank pulley.

Prices are based on a certain quantity, say 20-30 pcs being made. For the first run i'll need to have much of them prepaid to ensure i won't be stuck with a pile of these once they're done.

Any questions/input?
