Prices...
hey fast shark, u and me are in the same situation man. i was planning on gettin a flowmaster with custom 2.5" piping from the cat back, cuz dat will be a whole lot cheaper than gettin one dats already done, but, im still thinking, i think it'll be better to just order one from kore. in the price sheet i got from kore, the cat back is 419. thats a lot of money, but its probably worth it. at first i was thinkin about being cheap, but now im thinking, if ur gonna do it, might as well do it rite. all just my opinion though. good luck man, hope u make the right decision. peace
I didn't think to 2k tibby's stock exhuast really restricted that much air....I'd just save up and get headers and work back....but sometimes I work backwards..*shrug* the headers are where you'll see a bit of gain...not if just change the muffler.
Also, get some high performance spark plug wires and new plugs.....no gain but you may run better....
get a new Cold Air Intake (CAI)....that'll give you a couple horsies to hide under the hood.....
(I don't know if I know what I'm talking about....)

Don't go with 2and 1/2 inch exhaust It's really to big for a natural asp engine! esp a 4 cyl. Now if you have a turbo then you can use just about any size you can handle. But that is another matter! It sounds to me that you guys are looking for the best bang for the buck!! Am I right? If you want a nice exhaust system at a fair price that will give you improved performance and sound just goto your local partys house or speed shop and buy yourself a good universal FLOWMASTER muffler 2 chamber or 3 chamber buy an exhaust tip that you like any style and take it to your local muff shop someone that you trust to do the work! and have them bend you a new pipe with as few bends that they can make from the rezonator back! This mod should cost about $250 or less depending on if you know someone in the parts and muff buisness! OH yea and use 2 AND1/4 inch pipe you will not loose so much of your bottom end torque than you would with 2n1/2! My total price for this was around $170.00 and I like the sound and the performance increase trust me you will not notice that much of a difference from a full cat back from east bumbble f#ck than from a custom job done for a cheaper price! I have 2n1/4 from the rez back to a 2n1/4 flowmaster to a euro style twin tip and trust me this set up is loud enough nice and aggresive sounding! But then again thats just my opinion!!! smile.gif
the Muffler is just one aspect of a cars exhaust system. Just throwing a muffler which is not balanced with the rest of the cr will hurt you not help. Sound is great but not if it slows you down . Now you canget Axel back systems if you can not afford the whole cat back part. also an intake can help the sound and will help performance.
just and intake will very nominal at best change the sound of your exhaust My intake when I put in on was louder than most peoples exhaust it's funny hearing the sound come from the front of the car and not the back but now that I have my exhaust that problem is gone! But I do recomend the CAI it will help alot!
Here's what you do:
1) but a Tsudo Agressor universal muffler. It's the best sounding loudest muffler on the market. About 200
2) go to someone you trust to do exhaust work. Have them put in 2.5 in. stainless piping. If he's someone personal it should run 100.
3) have him remove the Cat all together and any mid mufflers or resonators.
This will free up all the air in the exhaust and will create little if no back pressure. You will notice a good HP gain and man you wanna talk about sounding good. Then if you really want power and sound get a header. This will cost a lot more but this can come at a later time. An intake will increase sound and with the right setup will increase air flow whcich in turn increases HP. The intake and exhaust setup alone will make you very happy. Hope I helped.

Yes, however normally-aspirated engines require backpressure to produce power, especially 4cylinders. Unless you have dyno charts to back up this claim, 2.25in is the biggest piping that a n.a. motor should use. 2.5 would be louder indeed however I believe there would be minimal gains.
If you had a turbo on the other hand, the air wants to force itself out as effiently as possible. Thus, 2.5 or even 3 inch piping is ideal for forced induction applications.

werd, hey man go with a 2.25 man. when u race, ur gonna want lowend gains to get a good start to burn the other guy. for street racing ur gonna want something that will get u off the line fast. man if u can get ur piping mandrel bent, go for a nice muffler and get the piping man. if u cant get a mandrel bent, than, i dunno, that's ur decision. at this speed shop i went to, they said if i get a muffler there and go to this muffler shop they know, i can get the cat back piping mandrel bent and all that for around a hundred. that's a good ass deal!! just ask around dude.
Dude fvck what everyone except BatLord has told you!
Save your money and get the right sh!t. This is your car if you can't do it right than save until you can.
Get yor CAI 1st you will notice some gains.
2nd I say headders 4-1 or 4-2-1 your choice depending on wheather you want high or low end gains.
3rd get the damn cat back from KORE. I beleve it is the only one tested.
BatLord is not trying to sh!t you. He is a well respected member of this and FXtreme and knows what he is talking about.
If you skimp you are just buying crap that you will prolly have replace.
