does any one know what the dowls on the pressureplate are called and what is their function in the clutch system?
Here is a pic but it don't show the dowls.

I don't know what they are called or their purpose but they sit through the fingers on the plate. :?:

to locate it perhaps? I have never seen dowls on a pressure plate before.

 

well they are not exactly dowls,
(cause i don't know their name) but every plate has em
they are on the aftremarket and oem pressure plates.

 

oh! Are you talking about the small weight like things on the ends of the "fingers"?

 

The dowel are there to help center the pressure plate, and also to take some of the sheer load off the bolts that hold the pressure plate to the flywheel. Without the dowels, the bolts would need to be much more massive.

when i had the brass button clutch problem and the dowls shared off on the bell housing the clutch seemed to still want to drive while in nutural??

And then when i recieved the replacement it didn't have those dowls
(it had fingers that were part of the clutch cover that sat through the diaphram fingers)??

how would those take the load off the bolts?

I just don't get it?????
