ok this is for my brother, he has a 95 240sx but the symptoms should be the same for most manual trans vehicles..

everytime he puts the car into gear it grinds BADLY.. when hes in gear and moving its fine but lets say he down shifts, it grinds like crazy or if hes rolling just a bit and trying to get it in gear or reverse its grinding..
he said he felt the clutch slip maybe once or twice.. but it just started happening awhile ago all of a sudden..

he's thinkin its most likely the clutch about to go.. but could it possibly be the tranny?
cause he needs wants to get a new clutch in there asap but doesn't want to waste all that money if its the tranny thats actually bad..

let me know if anyone had similar experiences and what the problem might be

thanks mangs/womangs

Either synchros or stripped gears, has nothing to do with clutch.

I agree with Ham.. the clutch is fine, it is the transmission that is messed up. As it only grinds going into gear, but is fine once there, I am thinking it is the Syncros.

so it's the syncros? or stripped gears? hmmm
i thought it might be the syncros...
the tranny needs to be replaced? hmmm..

because if it was the clutch the rpm's would fly but you wouldnt be moving that much right? basically the rpms wouldnt match the speed if the clutch was going right?

it would cost the same amount of labour to replace the clutch as it is the transmission right?

It's probably syncros.

Guys can unadjusted cables do that?
