Port n' Polish
Okay ... help me out a bit here ... let's do some math..
Onpol way ... He charges $300 for the job plus S/H to and from Puerto Rico. Onpol is in Puerto Rico is he not? If no, I am mistaken. Last time I checked, Puerto Rico was an island in the middle of the ocean. Two ways to get on/off this island ... a boat or a plane. Now I would think that ship charges would add up a bit on this minor detail. Now how bout the technical side ... Onpol's work nets an approximate 5HP give or take.
Extrude Hone way ... $395 for the job on a 1 piece IM. Your S/H is not going to an island, rather a city in the US. Ship should be a lot cheaper am I right? The technical side ... We know Extrude Hone has the potential to produce better HP gains with a more complete job. Again, sorry for the repetition, I direct you to the SVT Contour.
The bottom line ... Skip the ship charges here. Let us compare only the actual job. Another hundred bucks is cheap when you think of the two main points you are getting for it. ONE: You have a proven potential for higher HP gains. TWO: a higher work quality. I will acknowledge one setback that I consider to be negligible IMHO. Due to the amount of work that Extrude Hone does, thier turn around is somewhat less desirable.
Ultimately you get what you pay for. $300 for 5HP is hardly worth it, when $395 could be 25HP.

Onpol is $180 for the intake manifold only, shipping included. That's far less than half of Extrude Hone's price, for what you say MAY BE 25hp, but has yet to be dyno-proven for the Beta intakes. The $300 is for IM+TB(incl. replacement throttle plate), again shipping included.
And Puerto Rico is a US protectorate, serviced by USPS. Standard parcel-post rates apply, they ain't expensive. Math look any better? wink
But I agree with Andre that he should investigate locally--there are plenty of machine shops around toronto (and TONS of modified imports), odds are you can find someone who can do it reasonably well. But don't pay more than $500cdn for the whole modification process. Less would be nice of course smile.gif

thanx Veniston for stayin on my side..
ya i dont have all the funds to send it down to extrude... i have been searching locally and have found 2 places... one which 2 uniq went to and got his stuff done.. and another which is elite auto http://www.eliteauto.ca/home.html
... prices are relitavly cheap in comparison to what you guys are talking about.. they charge the same as extrude but in cdn dollars.. that is making me werry on getting it done...
now i have a cousin.. actually 2 who are brothers .. one just graduated from mechanical engineering and the second is in his 3rd year. Their father owns a large machine shop and they can do it for me. Now my question is to Trust my cousin to bore it out, which i know they have the knowledge to but dont have the experience of boring out TB's and IM's.. or finding a company who CAN do it but dont know if they are TRULY CAPABLE of doing it.
plus giving it to family, we all know takes at least an extra 2 weeks to get done.. **sigh**

Actually, the best performing heads and ports are RARELY the ports the flow bench test out the best.
Not sure where you got your information from, but that is simply not true.
You can always just ream out an intake runner/intake port to flow better, but unless it swirls air the right way as it passes the valves and into the combustion chamber, you can end up with a horribly mixture. If it swirls the air properly, it will push all the exhaust gases out (or at least as much as possible), and mix the air fuel mixure as evenly as possible throughout the entire combustion chamber.
High flowing parts does NOT always equal HP. the direction/swirl of air flow is more important in most instances than simple volume.
The Extrude hone process is highly regarded, however the SVT contour has a few more changes that just extrude honing the IM, but of course Extrude Hone doesn't tell you that. The Extrude Hone process was also used on the older Ford Taurus SHO IM's...not sure about the later years.

Well what I would do (actually, what I did smile.gif ) is pick up a used IM & TB and have the work done on that. There's no real way to defer the risk of any of this--but at least your car won't be out of commission while you're waiting or if anything goes wrong. Now my question is to Trust my cousin to bore it out, which i know they have the knowledge to but dont have the experience of boring out TB's and IM's.. or finding a company who CAN do it but dont know if they are TRULY CAPABLE of doing it.

With regard to your cousin--they are aware that you're not looking for a straight-through bore out? The TB is tapered in and then back out a bit, this does make a difference in the flow. (Converging/diverging nozzles--any mechanical engineer should have covered that in school!) It makes it a bit harder to do though. And as Random has said, there's a 1mm tolerance if you have it done to 58mm, that's not a lot.
And the plate has to fit snugly. (I do know that it is not perfectly circular, and thought I should have changed that in my post, but no re-wording immediately came to mind so I sent it anyways rolleyes.gif )
If the machine shops do this for other cars, as the eliteauto one seems to, they should know all about this. I don't know your cousins so I can't comment on them wink
