Ok, so I busted a CV boot. I tried to replace the boot today by removing the CV joint, putting on the new boot, then putting the CV joint back together.

Things went wrong when the joint kept popping out when I was putting the axel back together. It would pop out, then I'd smack it back in, it would do the same again, so I'd smack it back in harder with the hammer. I removed it completely, then got a visual while I smacked it in place. I don't know why It's popping off.

Anyone with experience please help me out. I need to know how to get that little clip to hold the CV in place. What am I doing wrong?

Yeah, there's a ring there that looks like a C. Should it be a complete circle?

^^That could have been the problem..

Just an update.. The shop shut down for their weekend on tuesday and wednessday. I worked durring the hours they were opened on monday and I didn't have time to work on my car. For the first time I had my car towed, it was sad. The dealership covered the repair under warranty and I ended up with a new axle. I would have done the repair myself so that I didn't have to wait, but the shop closed down. They said when the axle popped out from the CV joint, it stripped the end of the axle.

That could be the reason that Hyundai just installs new axels insted of re-greasing and re-booting.

The whole point of having the car worked on at the dealership was that it would have been quicker. They took the car on Monday, didn't look at it until Tuesday, ordered parts on Wednessday, got the parts on Thursday, and got the car running the same day. That was a PITA. Had I known it would have taken that long, I'd have just bought my own axle from advanced auto parts online store and installed it myself on Wednessday.

I had them perform a Hi-scan to reset my airbag light I set off a few years ago working on my instrument cluster. They said it looks like my 2nd O2 sensor is starting to go bad, but it's not throwing a code yet. This explains my closed loop problems. Hi-scan usually costs $60, but they performed it free for me!

Also, again, the sales dudes tried to get me to trade in my car on a 07. Those cars are hot, but I love my baby.

Upon further self examination, the 2nd O2 sensor problem was my pre-cat pipe was slightly loose just after the 1st O2 sensor and causing a random exhaust leak which was throwing odd values to my 2nd O2 sensor. It may still be a bad sensor, but I found that as a problem which could affect the 2nd O2 sensor.
