Default Oil question

So oil is supposed to be changed every 3,000 miles or 3 months. If I only drive my car 1200-1500 miles every 3 months, should I still change it at the 3 month interval or can I go until a full 3,000 miles? Another words, which is better for the engine...having oil that sits in it for 6 months/3,000 or changing it at the 3 month/1500 interval. I dont use synthetic...just regular 10w30 oil from the store.

well while you dont put miles on it, do you use it in regular intervals?

they recommend changing it during 3 months cuz the grimey sh*t can accumulate at the bottom of the pan

if your puttin 15 miles a day on it,almost every day, then yah you should be good to let it roll to the 3k mileage

I dont drive it much at all. Only maybe once or twice every couple of weeks, so its sitting usually for awhile before I drive it again.

Use good quality synthetic oils and a Hyundai filter, and change your oil every 4-5000 miles unless you drive on dirt roads at wide open throttle. If you don't drive that much, at least change your oil once a year (twice if you have actual seasons, to match the viscosity requirements of summer and winter).

3,000 miles was for conventional oil on engines that would be totally clapped out at 80,000 miles and engine and lubrication technology have both moved beyond that point.

I would wait until you hit 3,000 miles before changing it, and you can switch to synthetic oil like stocker said for added protection.
