Larry, you still have no hose going to your intake tube. You have an open hole where dirty unfiltered air is getting in.

Exactly. I put a screw out the little Y tube on the elbow.

If your blocking the holes to which the oil gets out, your putting pressure on the crankcase, you have to circulate it out and back in in some way.

see.. the only thing I am worried about with running a catchcan with an open element cleaner on top.. I know in my italian cars they NEED the vacuum from the intake to pull all the vapor out of the engine and to put a slight amount of negative pressure in the engine block to run perfectly. Do our engines need that?

I also see this topic took off last night...

The holes are blocked on the "in" side, not the "out" side. All the pressure gets out, it's just not going in the intake but to the can.

Mad, I don't think it is the case. Plenty of vapor are getting out of those 2 plugs as it is. As I said, I have been like this for a few years without any problems and my mechanic did 2 years of rally like this.

I know it shouldn't hurt your engine, the reason for it to go to the intake is for the combustion chamber to get rid of those oil vapors... for the 99.9% average driver it would be a PITA and also funny to have to "drain" oil and dispose it, I think that's why manufacturers do it.
Now, on the other side, does it really help in keeping the engine cleaner? Because as someone already said, if you open your intake the TB looks just as clean as the day you cleaned it, so if it's not helping in the TB area, does it really help on other areas? Better combustion? confused.gif

Those vapors will decrease octane figures, that's why a lot of boosted cars need a catch can to get a few more psi. On my car, my ecu doen't manage the knock sensor. If i use anything else than premium gas, it will predetonnate. The catch can helps for that issue and since I got it for 20$, it would have been silly not to take it. Also, yes the tb might be clean...what about the injectors and further down the IM?

Well only the octane issue would be more than enough to justify it, if in addition to that it helps even a veru tinny little to keep injectors cleaner, that's even better.
