Recently the car becomes so unreliable. The problem starts about two months ago, all the sudden the cars won't start, you can hear the car crank but just couldn't start. The strange thing is that the car would start after a while with no problem but once you turn it off it maay or may not be able to start again. It happens few time before I get the battery replaced, and the problem went away for about one month then come back. The NRMA guys (road side service) have tested the car and pointed to the fuel pump, so it get replaced yesterday. Everything seems fine until today, it happen again. So it get towed to the mechanics and all of sudden it starts when they test it with no drama. Now the mechanic waiting to see if the problems will come back again. Have anybody here have similar problem before or have any clues about the problem?

check your engine fuses above the bettery tray for a popped fuse. check your alternator, check your spark plugs, spark wires, coilpack, battery could be dead, battery clamps aren't tight, oiled, or sanded.

^ Word.

If it isn't that stuff though, a UK member had a similar problem to yours & it ended up being the crank angle sensor. You should be able to get one pretty cheap from the wreckers.

ABQelantra: can I ask what is fpr?

HyundaiKitCoupe: alternator is only 6 months old and battery is about 2 months old don't think they have problem, may get the mechanic to test the plugs, leads and coil pack.

OzFxCoupe: may tell them to look at that crank angle sensor as well, do you know roughly how much are they in wreckers and dealer? the k-mart guy said to me unless the problem come back again, otherwise he can do nothing about it. do you know will they charge me fee even if they could not find the problem?

one thing to note is both yesterday and today when the car won't start, the car is parked in the driveway with an angle, do you think it matters?

Your problem lies in the ignition system, somewhere between the coils, plugs, and wires.

I was working on a blazer that had the same problem, when it was cold it would start flawlessly, but after 20 minutes of driving if you shut it off it wouldnt start. it needed a new distributer cap and rotor

we obviously have DIS so you cant replace the cap and rotor, but im sure your problem is in the coilpack wires or plugs

Alex01tib: when you say wires do you mean leads only?

The mechanic is closing in one and half hour, but I still hasn't heart one thing from them which make me think either the problem didn't come back or a lot of works (big bill) has been done.

Yah i was just mentioning the actual spark plug wire, from coil to plug, as if you have some really shot stockers they can have poor performance when warm and even jump wires.

A good idea would be to grab some new plugs and wires (prd ftw) and grab some coils from a junker, if the problem goes away, your done, if not, take it from there. you wont be throwing money away with the plugs/wires as they should be replaced, and the coils will be dirt cheap.
