Default Newbie has a question about a muffler...

i recently bought my 01' tibby and installed a custom cai and now i'm turning my attention towards a new muffler. i'm looking for a direct replacement so i don't have to hack anything or get hangers welded up. also if there is a few available where would be the best place to get it? thanx alot!

Well thats a good question. There are no bolt on applications for the Tib. But what is your best bet is just get the cat-back from KORE and I think SharkRacing can get you one also. your best bet is just get a cat-back system if you want bolt on plus it is better for performance.

If you just get a muffler expect little to no performance gain. You can't run a tiny stock pipe into a 2.25" muffler and have it work right.
A cat back is okay, and will run about $500+ for the mbrp and probably $100 or more to install.

For any real gains, save up for the shark 421 header and get a custom 2.25" exhaust with high flow cats and a nice muffler installed like I did. I paid around $1000 for everything - but it doesnt sound ricey at all and not TOO loud so every cop turns his/her head!

I just know alot of places / boxes, etc. say you will gain 5 hp or some crap from a muffler.

Cheers.

i'm not to concerned about getting any real increase in hp from the exhaust. i'm just going for a more aggressive tone from the car. the cai gave it a nice growl but i would like a little more. i'm pretty happy with the perf. of the car as it is and my cash flow is a little low for a complete system too.
