Hey all.. I'm new to the Forum. I recently purchased a 01 Tiburon 5 spd and the 2nd day I owned it, it abruptly stopped running. I took it to the local garage who said it has no compression in cylenders 1 and 2. Is this car worth replacing the engine? Or would I be better off selling it as is or parting out? I know I can get a running junkyard engine for $300.00 but am skeptical as to whether I can trust buying a motor from a yard or not. Any input?

Get a low milage engine from a 96-02 elantra. You should be fine.

How many miles are on it?

Grab an engine from the junk yard and it'll last another 150,000 miles or so. It's worth a swap, put a little money into it and you'll be good as new. Might as well build it before putting it in

A motor build-up can get up to the cost of a reman'd motor pretty quick though, especially if you get parts from HMA.

Get a JY engine and run a quick compression test on it. If it is low-miles and clean with no obvious oil leaks, and the compression is good, you will probably be in good shape. At a minimum, change the timing belt while you're in there unless the engine is VERY low-mile.
